International Deaf Awareness Week 2018: Sandals


The sandals are finally gone! New walking shoes are on the way! As International Deaf Awareness Week 2018 is being celebrated around the world, there are forgotten Deaf returnees’s stories that are very much part of Deaf awareness how to empower them instead of shun them out of the society, begins with us. The same sandals you see in the picture, I walked with those sandals for nine months through wet, hot, cold, and freezing conditions. Unemployment stats in Deaf returnee’s community are much higher more than we really understand. It is the toughest social struggle of all.

There was a great article written in 2016, about 63% of Americans Don’t Have Enough Savings to Cover $500 Emergency by Maggie McGrath, a Forbes writer. That’s alarming. The same sandals I walked for nine months had put me in emergency rooms few times this year. I am in joy of wearing new shoes very much. I had to scramble around trying to make some money by fixing around, helping out people, and the times had been a journey with the sandals. Helping out is a blessing. It was very good deal I could not ignore those shoes and they are in excellent condition! I thank people who are supportive of my journey. You know who you are. Love and peace are the most important elements in my life.

Should International Deaf Awareness Week shut Deaf returnees out of their stories? What is suffering? It is a noun: the state of undergoing pain, distress, or hardship. I thought writing a story about suffering, the wisdom of words should be return and I thank the people who devotes their time to motivate me and saw the good in me. This story is not a family friendly gender-netural politically correct journey. It is about sharing raw perspective—a view from behind closed doors, from a cell in jail to the door in present time. It is about life surviving the suffering cycles.

Suffering is something Deaf returnees to understand the dangers of it. Educate them. Free them. If the society is not interested because they are taught that way, then that is the problem.

If I am pushed to suffer and suffered by, then how can I get better? If we let suffering form the frames that we make decisions with and do not take the time and energy to understand the issues then we will suffer fear and many innocent people will suffer the consequences of that fear while the wolves reap the profits from your fear. I take suffering seriously; my hope is not only to conduct a thorough, albeit expedient experience, suffering is something we need to know that it has been seen. The fish only knows that it lives in the water, after it is already on the riverbank. Without awareness about suffering, it would never occur for me to change this.

My life stories are flawed, with a life-time incarceration, lack of awareness, survival, and breath. When I was visiting Rochester, New York, and got a chance to visit Highland Park, the statue of Frederick Douglass, America’s first statue for people of color, had inspired me his stories as he was the master story teller.


Frederick Douglass writes, “I know of no soil better adapted to the growth of reform than American soil. I know of no country where the conditions for effecting great changes in the settled order of things, for the development of right ideas of liberty and humanity are more favorable than here in these United States.” 

The sandals had been taking beating after beating, like a death sentence. Like a movie, where Like Skywalker Faces the Entire First Order in Star Wars: The Last Jedi where he took powerful missiles and yet, he pulled the greatest Jedi mind in all of movies. I understood the scene. I’ve been there.

There is no need to attack Deaf returnees stories where they had been working on every effort to correct misinformation, educate society, and encourage awareness that needs help. Changing my life around is not that easy. The experience of walking sandals for nine months is not a sign of weakness. It makes my life stronger. I am writing this instead of being hidden from view, the suffering is real. Look at other countries who had been treating Deaf returnees way different—more positive than in America.

Unknown.jpegSomeone once shared with me, “whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.”

Not even as a teenager that time, I made mistake 32 years ago. Proving legal bias—especially when Deaf returnees do not appear in the language of law—is very difficult. How do you change your life around? Must I be shunned from public for life?

ASL: A Jedi Academy Story


Happy Star Wars Day!

Sign Wars: A New Hope reminds Deaf community to continue and preserve sign language that ranks as one of earliest, dating to First Deaf Jedi story taught by Master Yoda, the wisest Jedi to train Deaf Jedi how to carry a new hope for Deaf community.

Master Yoda have seen that the sociological fact of a language hegemony in the majority or in the minority has very different effects on Deaf people.

It is amazing that sign languages around the world have taught Deaf people like a Jedi to preserve sign languages to stand against wars staged by Alexander Graham Bell Association and Oralism practices.

Gotcha! I was looking for something simple picture and found this, “Jedi Academy: The Phantom Bully” by Jeffrey Brown. It is a perfect metaphor for Deaf people to be trained by Master Jedi to challenge phantom bullies from Alexander Graham Bell Association. Jedi Academy will always preserve American Sign Language (ASL) and its world’s sign languages, no matter what. ASL is knowledge. Without ASL, no knowledge.


Imagine Yoda would explain to Deaf Jedi(s)—“A Jedi uses the Force for knowledge and defense, never for attack.”

And that is where Yoda taught Deaf Jedi(s) to stand against hate practices by Alexander Graham Bell Association, “Fear is the path to the dark side…fear leads to anger…anger leads to hate…hate leads to suffering.”

When it is a majority, AGBell take their perspective. They narrow the truth Deaf community seek and how they ignore problems. Ignorance, is one of the most powerful forms of influence in English language.

When Deaf community faced with a minority, Deaf people share their stories to build stronger information and solve problems from the society’s point of view–not only the Deaf community as minority’s point of  view is challenging. It is one thing that Deaf community has been manipulated consciously daily and it is not even fair to them.

It is a problem for the quality of ignorance in society to discuss that applies the quality of the healing. How could ASL make progress toward a finish line if someone kept moving it as they continue to progress Deaf community for communication, information, and knowledge on the success of ASL today and tomorrow?

The upcoming movie will be shown this weekend, “Solo: A Star Wars Story” is showing at movie theaters. It is going to be interesting and exciting movie to watch.

As Hans Solo once said, “You’ve never heard of the Millennium Falcon? It’s the ship that made the Kessel run in less than 12 parasecs.”

Exactly! ASL is the millennium language in less than 12 parasecs! That makes ASL and Deaf community more unique and intellectual discourse to continue hope forever! Once again, thank you, Master Yoda!

TeleCaption: May the Force Be With You, Carrie Fisher!


I had been a huge fan of Star Wars series since 1980, The Empire Strikes Back when I was five years old. The original movie, A New Hope in 1977, I was too young to watch. The day when my father took me and my brother to attend for drive-in to watch the second movie in my father’s car, I was really glued to the movie watching all the scenes even though it did not have captions for me to understand, my father would use the speaker in his car, listening while I was sitting outside and figuring out what they were doing. I do remember that day very well. It was actually packed house filled with some coolest and muscle cars you’d look around—drive-in was really awesome. Too bad that it is not the same anymore.

Then in 1983, the third movie, Return of the Jedi, this time was different because my father ordered a TeleCaption for the first time and set it up for me in the living room, it was the best thing ever happened to me. I finally got to watch the movie when I understand more even though it was not perfect, but still, it was better than nothing. There was a scene that I was like, “What you are doing?” when Jabba the Hutt dehumanized Princess Leia, using evil laughter, I told my brother, “That Jabba thing was not very nice!” and then I was glad that Jabba’s big tongue came out when Princess Leia caught around his neck using the chains, I thought, “Princess Leia was hero in that movie!”

After that, I had followed every Star Wars movies ever since. I was very fortunate that my father bought me the TeleCaption from Sears. He worked hard to earn money and realized that he wanted to see something really decent for me and I appreciated every minute of it even though I did not show it much that time.

When I found out that Carrie Fisher passed away on my own birthday, December 27th, it hit me hard, not just because of her character as Princess Leia and General Leia Organa where I watched Rogue One: A Star Wars Story with open captions at a local movie theater couple of weeks ago, it was the FIRST MOVIE ever I watched with closed captions when I was nine years old. It was very special meaning for me. You would have to wait for VHS to come out for couple of months, maybe longer, but it was worth my time.

There is a huge difference between talent and skill. They do not belong in the same sentence, really. Carrie Fisher was one of the greatest actress so critically on viewers being able to understand the difference between the two and to understand what that difference means to you. Either you are born with talent or you are not. Either you have the gift or you do not.

Actually, whether or not you have talent does not really matter if someone want to be an actor nor actress. Many might disagree, but I contend that it certainly will not be the deciding factor in your favor. In fact, sometimes having talent can be detrimental to someone else. Many disagree with that, too. But I contend that is also true.

Whenever someone like Carrie you admire dies on your birthday, it hits you hard. May the Force be with you, General Leia Organa! Thanks for all the memories you had done. Oh, one more thing, thank you, Dad for doing that for me. Oh, I wish I should kept the original TeleCaption all these years to share my stories! Big mistake.

The Only and One Rogue: A Sound Wars Story

Meet Alexander Graham Bell, the only and one Rogue. The definition of ‘Rogue’ in dictionary means “dishonest man”—and Mr. Bell was also the scoundrel behind Sound Wars story. Alexander Graham Bell first advocated Oralism and speech training and the removal of ASL (American Sign Language) from curriculum. By 1927, sign languages had been banned from most schools as a result of his lobbying (Maher, 1996). This promotes the ignorance of Deaf culture, especially when the following definition of culture is used:

A culture is a set of learned behaviors of a group of people who have their own language, values, rules for behavior, and traditions. A person may be born into a culture; he is brought up according to the values of the culture and his personality and behavior are shaped by his cultural values. Or, a person may grow up in a culture and later learn the languages, values, and practices of a different culture and become “encultured” into that culture. 

The Deaf are outsiders in the hearing American world. (Mow, 1989) says that each person has experienced “mental isolation”, which he describes in detail: “while everyone is talking or laughing, you are as far away as a lone Arab on a desert that stretches along every horizon Everyone and everything are a mirage; you see them but you cannot touch or become a part of them. You thirst for connection.” The Deaf are further alienated from American society because they are not always as normal healthy people (Rutherford, 1992) Also, consider the “hearing impaired”—although used to refer to the Deaf, and hard of hearing, this label is considered highly offensive to the Deaf. It ignores cultural identity and its use among hearing is a sign of ignorance (Roach, 2002).

With the lack of ASL education in early education resulting from AGBell reforms, the majority of Deaf people show a profound pain in their lives. It seems that the hate crimes against Deaf citizens have dwindled since the time of AGBell. Bell’s action equaled “hate crime” of denying the linguistic minority (Deaf signers) such privileges and societal rights to the use of “natural language.”

Hate crime was a logical term to describe AGBell’s eugenics movement for imposing linguistic and cultural superiority and eradication upon Deaf signers of the late 1800’s and early 1900’s. More appropriate terms are linguistic imperialism or attempt to “linguicide” the sociocultural minority, for example, Deaf signers of the post-1880 Milan Conference period from conveying and expressing their own thoughts in practical and efficient language usage.

“Linguicism” could also be an acceptable term to describe AGBell’s misguided ideology of assimilating or centralizing the sociolinguistic minority into the society at large on so-called equal basis. Deaf people everywhere, could enact the strategic multilingualism polices to ensure the protection and preservation of our beloved and precious signed languages from possibly linguistic extinction and loss and sociocultural genocide or undermine the existence of minority language usage. Deaf people everywhere ought to call for the non-intervention policy to make our natural language of the Deaf to the protected statues to the listing of endangered language usage in the United States.

Beginning the work of AGBell in late 19th century, Deaf people have been frequent and prominent targets of the eugenics movement. It is not widely known by the general public that, in addition to his work as an inventor of the phone was later found fraud, Bell was also a leading figure in the education of the Deaf in the late 19th and early 20th century. In order to put his issue into context, it is important to consider Bell and the educational and social programs he promoted.

The Only and One Rogue with the most famous quote ever, “We should try ourselves to forget that they are deaf. We should try to teach them to forget that they are deaf”—AGBell, 1884. The quote goes under the instant microscope of cameras and social media. Every detail is investigated, and the Deaf community has demanded community accountability. First one: Bigotry. Second: Language Belittlement. Third: Hate Crime. Bigotry is the first tier supporting a language belittlement, second tier to push for the systematic change adding hate crime, a third and final tier.

Deaf people today and tomorrow struggle even more when they attempt to tell their stories that they have been severely oppressed, yet, forgotten and ignored. 1) Framing the problem evaluates and subsequently rejects the applications of the Deaf people. 2) Framing the problem routinely reduces the number of incidents allocated to Deaf people by paid government officials. Many of the Deaf people are unable to defend themselves and lose the help they desperately need. 3) Framing the problem forces the Deaf people to prove that they are Deaf over and over again every day to qualify for Deaf people’s own safety. 4) The provisions for limiting and framing the problem for Deaf people to qualify are so high that do quality are unable to meet the federal hate crimes to engage into the licensed statistics. AGBell’s career is littered with catastrophes.

That is why AGBell, the Only and One Rogue loved being Darth Vader……and all the sound wars stories from Deaf survivors—zip. Lost. Forever. I hold him responsible even in the picture above I made sure that

AGBell’s beliefs and structural biases commanded Deaf people to be changed because of his deep-seated hatred codes. Then his beliefs have to be changed, too. AGBell will be always ROGUE ONE forever.

If Gallaudet Wrote Star Wars: Jedi Bell Return


A long time ago in galaxy far, far away…

There is a secret document that has been sealed inside Gallaudet University so deep enough to bury the hatchet—it is like the Federal Bank of New York on the behalf of Federal Reserve System. They hold the gold in there—they act as the guardian and custodian of the gold on behalf of account holders, which include to U.S. government—official organizations.

Gallaudet University is a property of U.S. government and home to many official organizations. Therefore, Gallaudet is home to Alexander Graham Bell Association, an official organization. AGB acts as the guardian and custodian of the Deaf oppression. Have you ever seen a Gallaudet president talk about Racism front of the world before our eyes before? How many Gallaudet presidents combined in total before Bobbi Cordano? I am not talking about text messages, but I am talking about a real-time video—the mother of Truth. That is the first time ever what a Gallaudet-elect president said that. That is history in the making, folks!

This is but one truly social problem, and that is educational ignorance. Whether or not the world has three dimensions, whether the mind has nine or 12 categories, games are to be played. Racism does not including stories, one must first answer! Gallaudet University was built in 1864 for Deaf people first like Tatoonie with the picture above—where it had begun for Deaf people first. Same concept.

Alexander Graham Bell once said, “When one door closes another door opens, but we so often look so long and so regretfully upon the closed door, that we do not see the ones which open for us.” Have you ever seen a picture of Alexander Graham Bell and a Black Deaf student together anywhere? No pictures can be found. It is important to know that Bell did write a memo (letter-alike) to Francis Galton in Britain who coined Eugenics informing him that AGB follows Galton’s philosophy then becomes a honorary president of the Second International Congress of Eugenics a year before his death. People look up to AGB as Jedi of Deaf people—the problem, Jedi was supposed to be good people.


Darth Vader was a Jedi before the Dark Side took over his life—and AGB went into Dark Side and fooled many people including Deaf people.

Eugenics influences Racism—a learned behavior in higher education. Galton then writes a letter in return on his paper, “Hereditary Deafness” on his review of Bell’s Upon the formation of a deaf variety of the human race in a 1885 magazine—Review in Nature, Vol: 31, Pages 269-70. The opening paragraph:

The startling title of Mr. Graham Bell’s admirable memoir is fully justified by its contents. 

Finally, in late 2015, President-elect Bobbi Cordano shares her greatest concerns after being invited to be part of town hall by Black Student Union listening to stories about oppression, internalized oppression at best. Bobbi would like to stop Racism and systematic discrimination as long as Alexander Graham Bell’s name is out of the Gallaudet campus. AGB’s systematic discrimination practices Audism, the favorite cousin of Racism. The quote by AGB makes a perfect example why Gallaudet has ignored Racism for so long by allowing that happening inside the door being closed and opens to Racism any time they welcome so regretfully upon the door that white supremacy still practices at Gallaudet. Is that why they do not want us to see the ones, which open for us?

Now I can broach the notion of intellectual oppression at Gallaudet University. There is a real change. It has already felt what solution might be given. At this point the problem is reversed. It was previously questioned of finding out whether or not Racism appears a problem. It now becomes clear, on the contrary, that Racism is or not. Watching the campus unrest at Gallaudet University, a particular fact, is acknowledging it fully. Now, no one will live in this fact, not recognizing it to be important, unless AGB goes away.

It is not just about color skin, but it has a lot of codes in language racism and multicultural competence. For example, a provost would say, “I AM GALLAUDET! I AM GALLAUDET! I AM GALLAUDET!” using political power on a Deaf student in a private meeting is considered Racism. There is a star out in the far galaxy that actually named after Deaf person.

No kidding! His name is Oliver Heaviside, an electrical engineer, mathematician, and physicist from 1850s from England. He invented several mathematical techniques to seek for the solution of differential equations and coined Electromagnetic eight terms. Deaf people do not need to suffer anymore and throw Jedi Bell into the Death Star for once and all. Bell is a death star to Deaf people’s Star Wars. Darth Vader would fry Bell like Vader did to Palpatine, also known as Darth Sidious, who planned to overthrow the Republic and the Jedi Order from with.

Being an ally to people of color in the struggle to end racism is one of the most important things that Gallaudet University needs to do that. Can there at least healthy way to be an ally? Racism needs to be overthrown out of Gallaudet University and the Jedi Order of Alexander Graham Bell. Why return again and again?

A wise Jedi once warned, “Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering.”

Hate crimes and speech does exist on the campus. A lot of Deaf people had been suffering.  Thank you, Master Yoda! That would become of healthy Gallaudet!
