American Sign Langauge: Not a Human Right?

Why is ASL still marginalized today and tomorrow? Deprivation of ASL is a form of Linguicism?

Gallaudet: Censorship & the Punishment of ASL

images-1.jpg

Gallaudet University still have relationship with Alexander Graham Bell, a historical figure who owned Audist views or engaged in hate practices—his name have not been removed across on the campus of Gallaudet. The coat of arms by the name of Bell have been idolized a landscape symbol of Audism that honors AGBell that leads to a question:

Is it obvious that GUAA had cited any sentiments in Ella Mae Lentz’s work because of her views about AGBell and LEAD-K? The videos between October 2018 and March 2019 by Ella Mae Lentz should not be censored due to her “tone”–“tone” is part of ASL, too. Is there a reason to cite its decision by GUAA to take an award away with “very careful assessment”, the highest social justice award known as Galloway award, reserved for Ella who have made a lasting contribution to Deaf community?

“Tone” is also an amendment to the United States Constitution: First Amendment. Freedom of Speech. Freedom of Expression. It means any law that should not prohibited limiting Ella’s rights to the First Amendment. Did it mean Gallaudet University and GUAA violated Ella’s rights even if it is because of “tone” in her videos where it belongs at her own house in California? It is an United States Constitution violation. It is indeed, very serious.

Ella Mae Lentz is very much entitled to her linguistic expressions to share her own thoughts in ASL, yet, GUAA is a hell-bent on allowing censorship being shifted control to limit her own expression, so ASL can be sold or censored to the highest bidder.

If there are at least, three people on the GUAA board whom have significant stakeholders of LEAD-K, making the decision independently, would cite a huge role in favoritism, and then it is a problem. It spells out a well-planned effort to penetrate the Audism market, while being stakeholders of LEAD-K, then it is also a stakeholder as the behalf of GUAA to avoid being “controversial” and generate modes of communication to deliberately confound the Deaf.

Ella Mae Lentz’s lasting contributions that stands up against AGBell to stop widespread linguistic and cultural anxieties in Deaf America is a feat.

GUAA board decides it would be best to rescind the Galloway award, so to avoid the permanent fear of ASL-centered, for political reasons, there is a huge banner that says: “WE ARE GALLAUDET: A SIGNING COMMUNITY”

Why not “WE ARE GALLAUDET: ASL COMMUNITY?”

GALLAUDET: SIGNING COMMUNITY is all about promoting more speculative communicative pursuits—oppressing ASL, the language and culture of the Deaf. Is it good example of marginalization of ASL? Is it censorship at best?

GALLAUDET: ASL COMMUNITY is about healthy lifestyle, living by the values it teaches and to reflect ASL everywhere. Students, faculty, and the campus would benefit the profession of ASL as scholars and teachers depends on the First Amendment rights that ASL COMMUNITY belongs on Gallaudet campus.

Ella Mae Lentz, a defender of ASL rights, shall receive Galloway social justice award without retaliation. Her views of LEAD-K and AGBell should not be censored, with a direct contradiction of the practice of American democracy—freedom of speech. Censorship at Gallaudet University is not acceptable and appropriate.

While the answer to censorship of ASL, shall not be imposed from GUAA or Gallaudet University itself, it is also invoking the view of ASL literature. Rescinding an award has reduced to a symbol of ASL politics just because Ella publicly calling out objectionable views of LEAD-K and AGBell, has gone too far in the political climate on Gallaudet campus.

If GUAA board members have direct lineage with LEAD-K for political reasons to help AGBell thrive and grow the modes of communication instead of ASL-centered climate at Gallaudet, then it is a huge conflict of interest and fail to manipulate communicable trust between the leadership and the led.

That is where Ella Mae Lentz has every right to receive an award that fits the character of a social justice warrior. Ella’s work on consciousness about the oppression practices is a social justice award. Social justice is all about advocating for a change.

page_1_thumb_large.jpg

Please take, as a liberty in embracing and appreciating the rights of ASL climate and Gallaudet University shall be a bias-free campus without retaliation.

Lastly, Gallaudet University and GUAA should not allow AGBell to engage in a decision-making about which mode of communication would be best thing, instead of ASL, is a pattern of derogatory ideologies. Questioning is another act of avoidance.

Please sign the petition to support Ella Mae Lentz to receive the Gertrude Scott Galloway, Advocacy and Social Justice Award.

Why Deaf Community Should Not Label ROAR as Hate Group

amygdala.gif

Hearing people, for example, hearing supremacists whose knowledge about Deaf people is the path of creating a hate crime where they usually experience blatant hate crime in which ignorance had aggressively gone behind the human consciousness what is called amygdala where the hate and fear created right there.

I would like to point out that Deaf community has no place to call ROAR (Reframing Our ASL Rights) a hate group. They are not even an expert. Not take a feather out of someone.

Creating an illegal activity toward such a group to target ROAR because ROAR does not believe in partnering up with Alexander Graham Bell (AGBell) that condone bigotry towards Deaf community for years and years.

ROAR believes in the strongest principle: American Sign Language (ASL)—and should not be vilified because of truth in the language that benefits many positive outcomes. The prejudices against ASL that strikes at the heart of state of being Deaf along its most vulnerable fault, for example, San Andreas fault.

I study hate crimes for 12 years and counting, and most often brings truth and knowledge by reading books, taking workshops about hate crime, hate speech, and hate groups, have shown strengths and weakness, even in Deaf community. As for Deaf community, hate groups is vaguely defined, and Deaf community has no place to call ROAR a “hate group” in the broadest sense of knowledge.

Since AGBell’s death in 1922, the bigotry towards ASL and Deaf people have continued to be reactionary in written hate literature about Deaf people. It takes years and years to understand what hate group really is about and it does not take one minute to make a statement that it is a hate group without knowledge. It does not work that way.

We need to understand the pledge to take a collective action to admit that AGBell was the scourge of hatred online—especially from the ideology of AGBell supremacists who increasingly use their lies to practice hate speech towards Deaf community whose their innocent lives has been claimed and stolen. It was not about data. It was about AGBell’s platform to magnify language bigotry and hate towards Deaf people today and tomorrow.

Today, the total of hate groups in America: 1,020—a huge jump in the last few years in the age of Trump. AGBell is the most invisible hate group towards Deaf people is also showing a weakness toward them as the world’s smallest minority and gain of hate groups in America.

Just like Deaf people are the world’s most invisible people where Deaf people has been experiencing a rising climate of hate because of bigots in AGBell’s divisions. The data only offers to hide the hatred ad how much it has been revoked and ignored, the truth is so much for all of us to do in order to become a stronger society to challenge hate practices, especially by AGBell.

Like I said, it does not take one hour to call out ROAR, as a hate group just because Deaf community thinks as an expert answer to label them is a big mistake. That is what culture of hate looks like—the assumption in many shapes and forms that does not meet the norm in the society. It is an act of character assassination.

There was never been anyone like Alexander Graham Bell in America. Never has leadership of AGBell been formed in so many conflicts of interest. Is it noticeable that so many questionable characters have filled it? And, until AGBell, Deaf community has never faced such a full-fledged attack on our most cherished principles: Protect ASL and state of being Deaf.

Clearly, I am disappointed that Deaf community thinks it is best to call ROAR, filled of Deaf people as good group, filled with ASL/DEAF-HEART to call them a hate group. That’s low. We should call AGBell as a hate group instead of belittling its own Deaf population.

In what ways did hate group define Deaf people to escape truth from language destruction? In what ways were those attempts to hide? We all need to remember the truth what AGBell has done with the lessons of the hate practices to continue genocide, language bigotry, and ideologically extremist, anti-Deaf, insensitive to ASL, is a big step to face the danger to Deaf people’s democracy in ASL and state of being Deaf.

Beginning with the AGBell administration, it has been nothing but all one—one-sided community: language bigots, and now, thanks in part to lies and distortions of hate-wing media, where AGBell has attacked Deaf people in social media with its base, they might have achieved its goals, and it starts with ROAR to stop the ideological practice of hate, and it is hardly a hate group. That is against the principle of ROAR’s democracy and it is called: truth to everything what Deaf community should stand for. Do not become puppets for AGBell.

On the final note, we can stop hate and opportunism from AGBell organization and it is without that AGBell is a hate group where plenty of corruption, back room deals even with the data. For 140+ years, AGBell has been the source of bigotry confronting Deaf America. Let’s stop the corrupt abuses of bullies like AGBell.

slack-anti-hate-group-1.jpg

What made ROAR a hate group in the first place that believes in freedom for civilization? How can ASL protect themselves from AGBell’s lies, disinformation, and its enemies? Can Deaf community we live in return the most important question of all in our lives, to its trust-mongering roots to protect ASL and state of being Deaf in healthiest formula?

Or…to Act as Judge?

IMG_2246.JPG

Word of the Day on January 24, 2019 by Merriam-Webster:

Adjudicate: to settle judicially or to act as judge

Did Deaf community ask Alexander Graham Bell to adjudicate whether American Sign Language (ASL) is the best language for the Deaf? Think about it. Even today in 2019, AGBell still acts as a judge to divide up ASL for the best interests of Cochlear Implants, Cued Speech, Listening and Speaking, and Oralism.

142 years ago on January 24, 1877: AGBell writes a letter to his father, Alexander Melville Bell:

“We are ready to do something with Visible Speech at once if type could be forthcoming. I propose issuing an introduction to Visible Speech the expenses of which will be paid by its publication in the Annals of the Deaf and Dumb—at least I hope so. Dr. Hill has spoken before the last Convention of Teachers—urging the introduction of Visible Speech into the school-system of Massachusetts.”

That’s where it became so successful that built AGBell headquarters in Washington, D.C. ever since; Remember, AGBell’s father was the pioneer of Visible Speech and he was a teacher of the Deaf and showed that his writing system to help Deaf students to learn spoken language which would be ORALISM. AGBell followed his father’s footsteps and successfully destroyed ASL and Deaf community even today in 2019.

So, Cued Speech would improve English greatly…even some Deaf people are supporting the idea of Visible Speech today. And what does all this have to do with AGBell opposing ASL in Deaf community? Plenty! When evil in AGBell’s words is seen as a temporal human phenomenon, it becomes relatively easy to vilify and make Deaf people as scapegoats of that which one does not understand or which one fears. Most importantly, fear creates powerful stereotypes: make ASL unknown, the misunderstood, the old ways, and give AGBell more power to access and make sure ASL would be destroyed, so AGBell and its followers and its Deaf scapegoats could “live happily ever after.”

With the emotional level—especially the level of evil, AGBell would go unpunished and make ASL get punished instead. That is the perfect source of the power of evil. We need to understand why AGBell behaved the way it did in the past and present tense with the greatest effort to eradicate ASL, the language and culture of the Deaf from the truth. Think about “OR”—that would give them more power to destroy ASL.

The Illusion of a Poll: Fact and Fable in Deaf Community

shutterstock_463656533.1478625714.jpg

What would it like not to live without history that reflects all of us who Deaf people are? The history of idea of creating “poll” goes back to George Gallup who defined the American information to give voters the right to democracy, and most importantly, the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) gives any person has the right to seek access for information at the request including the right to poll.

Guaranteed. Deaf people have seen the Gallup Poll sharing national news with anchors talking about it on national television, there is no way to miss this. It has changed the history of American politics including our own Deaf community.

It is a poll that Deaf people have right to gather their opinions for the fact of the matter is voting that creates truth to understand the power-struggling experiences and should not hide the emotional suffering in denial, and somehow suffering and does not know it.

Remember the times where there would be a tent with pollsters asking someone to taste the hidden drink which it would be COKE or PESPI. If you are right with the chosen drink brand, you get a prize. Come on, we cannot forget that. I did that. I like Pepsi. It is a simple and democratic poll. We are created as statisticians because we have the right to vote even for a poll.

We are strong believers in polling, too. When someone Deaf writes: “Deaf Life is abusing its powerful influence in the Deaf community.” That’s far fetched.

That is a one-sided perspective and never read diverse variety of information chewing influence away, and the poll created by DEAF LIFE is simple, harmless and a human right for anyone to vote in a poll when it comes to LEAD-K and Alexander Graham Bell. Would you react differently if it was George Veditz partners up with Alexander Graham Bell? What about truth partners up with toxicity? Would it go quietly deliberate and depend on the information to create their own viewpoints in polling? Do Deaf people have right to get Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), too?

IMG_7378-1.jpeg

There is the subscription in truth for freedom of information act and Deaf community should not deal with Alexander Graham Bell getting away with the fear of having a different opinion from the rest of Deaf community like us. Within polls like this one in Deaf community, we would want to fit in society without fear and hatred from Alexander Graham Bell. That kind of thinking does not develop social justice that shows many survivors who experienced language deprivation from the biggest oppressor, Alexander Graham Bell.

That is the kind of justice that is rightfully important to all of us and we need more people like us that are courageous enough to vote in a poll to stand up against what is wrong in society we deal with every day, and it starts with us to make a better place for all of us to live safely as much as possible, and that starts with a poll that is historic enough.

It sends a wrong message with final answer: Because Deaf community continues to live in Alexander Graham Bell’s America where its American citizens gets their news from known-sided organization like AGBell filled with propaganda and disinformation which best option for a language to learn other than rejecting American Sign Language off the book to control Deaf people’s use of the powers of emotionalism to allow modes of communication like Cued Speech, Oralism, Cochlear Implants all are Alexander Graham Bell’s favorite tools that will improve English in listening and writing far skyrocket…..the very same fear in and of themselves that ASL is powerful and best choice of all languages.

It should concern all of us that we continue to ignore the facts and follow our emotions when it comes to give Alexander Graham Bell the crown like a king. What should public opinion like this poll be based on? Should it be based on forgotten experiences? What would it mean to us in the eyes of educational polling? It also abuses its powerful influence of journalism that is often not enough discussed in Deaf community.

ASL: Emotional Intelligence?

Will we agree that American Sign Language (ASL) ever succeed as an emotional intelligence?

Rethinking ASL Justice & AGBell Colonialism

woty-justice-2018-5930-eb57eec534ce5401d7d6a7b1ae4b6f31@1x.jpg

Without question, 2018 has been emotional, heart-breaking, heart-crunching, heart-wrenching, hurt, being lied to, being deceived, confused, showing the culture of bystander, denials, and lost souls for Deaf community. Where is justice for American Sign Language (ASL)?

LEAD-K. It was never about data. It was about Alexander Graham Bell. With our help, we need to stand up for justice and stop Alexander Graham Bell patronizing Deaf people down. In fact, the word of the year for 2018 by Merriam-Webster has chosen “justice”—how fitting it is.

In New York Times by Dan Levin, writes that:‘in choosing the noun, Merriam-Webster said that it was looked up on its website 74 percent more often than in 2017’

LEAD-K was never about justice. It was more like travesty. What is travesty? Representing in a false or distorted way and that is how Deaf community felt about being represented in a false picture that it is all right to team up with Alexander Graham Bell.

LEAD-K helped Alexander Graham Bell gain more prejudice against ASL in our Deaf community. They are allowing Alexander Graham Bell to gain access to hate and Surdophobia in Deaf schools and mainstreaming schools.

Two years after LEAD-K formed, there are two things are absolutely clear: Alexander Graham Bell’s words and actions reflect the Audism, Surdophobia, and Hate Speech that had been at the face of the LEAD-K campaign. Now Cued Speech is forming in Virginia and Illinois—and wants to spread all over America with the help of LEAD-K. It was never about data or improving literacy in reading and writing.

A coalition of activists had been spending a lot of time, energy, and passion to bring the truth about Alexander Graham Bell’s hateful ideology. There are plenty of Deaf artists who drew pictures of how Alexander Graham Bell are dangerous proves effective, with survivors of Alexander Graham Bell gaining greater understanding through their own artwork.

There are plenty of Deaf writers who took it to the streets, social media, and public, showing the truth about Alexander Graham Bell and sends a message onto the platform to distribute truth and challenging the lies that makes Deaf students “successful” with Cued Speech, listening and speaking, and cochlear implants, and the list goes on, making Alexander Graham Bell for the message.

LEAD-K claims that it would support the foundation of Deaf children, and help protect young lives from the destructive effects of Oralism, but Deaf community got fooled badly.

The educational materials would help and empower Deaf people with the facts they need to live healthy, Audism-free lives. We need to continue and stand up against Audism and Surdophobia practice and conquer the language hegemony or oppression.

Now it is time for us to spread the truth. We stand up for social justice! We stand up for ASL justice!
