Is Hate a Mental Health Issue in the Deaf Community?

Written English transcript:

This is a video response for National Deaf Therapy (NDT)—

Hate is a form of oppression that a countless number of Deaf people encounter. Normally, we think of “hate” is referred to, even invisible number of Deaf people are being swept under the rug.

However, National Deaf Therapy claimed that ‘Hate is not mental health issue.”

The forms of hate can be found in: bullying, Audism, discrimination, taunting, making offensive comments, judging, power of abuse, public shaming and forth where Deaf people experience every day. Can we admit the truth that there are lots of Deaf people has experienced some type of bullying? Compassion? The chain reaction of shaming, could bullying lead to hate? Will National Deaf Therapy resist this?

Is there some kind of close connection between the right to stand up against hate and separation from power-struggle in the spirit of Deaf people?

Behind it all, of course, was most neglected problem Deaf people face that was thought to be under attack and why it would allow this to happen.

The American Psychological Association (APA) and The Psychology of Hate Crimes at APA Public Interest Government Relations Office in 2017 has stated:

“Hate crimes are a public mental health issue.” Will National Deaf Therapy agree with APA?

In 2016, Huff Post published a powerful article: Hate Is a Mental Health Issue by Dr. Barbara Van Dahlen writes:

“We need to recognize this type of hatred for what it is, a sign of severe emotional disturbance. And we need to take more responsibility for those around us who seem to be suffering—before their pain becomes unbearable and is turned inward against themselves or outward……. This type of overwhelming, all-consuming hatred cannot exist within an emotionally healthy human being.”

“Further tragedies can be prevented if we pay attention to the signs of emotional suffering—in ourselves and those we love—and, if we take responsibility for reaching out to those in need, to those who are falling through cracks.” In 2018, James M. Shultz, Tanya L. Zakrison, Sandro Galea in Hate and the Health of Populations,

“Against this backdrop, there should be little question at this point that hate is a powerful motivator of harm against others. The direct consequences of hate—including violence, discrimination, and marginalization of out-groups—are associated with poor health. Apart from the direct physical harm they inflict, hate-induced actions are associated with substantial mental illness effects.”—

“Recognizing that hate is a determinant of health puts the issue squarely within the remit of the population health community, pushing us to consider what we can do to address hate.”—Shultz, Zakrison, Galea.

Hate is indeed, a mental health issue. It is normal for Deaf individuals like yourself to have this kind of reaction, and it is important to understand that hate is not a joke. Yet, National Deaf Therapy questions the cause and effect to describe Deaf people not to experience hate, as a mental health issue is questionable.

In 2007: My essay was written for hate crimes and bias class,
Negative Perceptions of Deaf Individuals in Relation to Knowledge of American Sign Language:

“Yet this most stigmatized group is not often viewed through the lens of compassion and understanding, only modern forms of old ignorance. The Deaf community has gone through considerable evolution, but hate crime remains invisible in face of society.” (Tozier, 2007)

“As I have been told again and again, the experience of Deaf victims of hate crime has been traumatic. Life has been hard for them. Deaf people have toiled and fought on behalf of the society that has violated their human rights, dealing with manipulation, ignorance, denial of basic civil and language rights, among many other injustices. Deaf people struggled with the land and the lawless nature of American society. Hate crimes against them have been largely under-reported, under-investigated, and under-prosecuted.” (Tozier, 2007)

Either pin down truth or denial. In those experiences, hate incidents that truly happened, like the making final decision of hate, as non-mental health issue is questionable. As the Deaf community become objective in their own experience, they separate it from themselves.

Yes, hate should be a mental health issue in the Deaf community. There is no place for hate in the Deaf community. Should hate as emotionally, psychologically, and sociologically denial for the Deaf community? Why or Why not?

Introduction: ASL Hate Crime Channel

ASL Hate Crime will gather in communication, knowledge, and information. This channel will be sharing hate crimes, hate speech, hate groups, hate incidents around the world and discuss the central topics focusing hate crimes that has taken many forms: the social environment and physical environment and how hate is framed into public discourses within higher learning in ASL.

Why Deaf Community Should Not Label ROAR as Hate Group

Hearing people, for example, hearing supremacists whose knowledge about Deaf people is the path of creating a hate crime where they usually experience blatant hate crime in which ignorance had aggressively gone behind the human consciousness what is called amygdala where the hate and fear created right there.

I would like to point out that Deaf community has no place to call ROAR (Reframing Our ASL Rights) a hate group. They are not even an expert. Not take a feather out of someone.

Creating an illegal activity toward such a group to target ROAR because ROAR does not believe in partnering up with Alexander Graham Bell (AGBell) that condone bigotry towards Deaf community for years and years.

ROAR believes in the strongest principle: American Sign Language (ASL)—and should not be vilified because of truth in the language that benefits many positive outcomes. The prejudices against ASL that strikes at the heart of state of being Deaf along its most vulnerable fault, for example, San Andreas fault.

I study hate crimes for 12 years and counting, and most often brings truth and knowledge by reading books, taking workshops about hate crime, hate speech, and hate groups, have shown strengths and weakness, even in Deaf community. As for Deaf community, hate groups is vaguely defined, and Deaf community has no place to call ROAR a “hate group” in the broadest sense of knowledge.

Since AGBell’s death in 1922, the bigotry towards ASL and Deaf people have continued to be reactionary in written hate literature about Deaf people. It takes years and years to understand what hate group really is about and it does not take one minute to make a statement that it is a hate group without knowledge. It does not work that way.

We need to understand the pledge to take a collective action to admit that AGBell was the scourge of hatred online—especially from the ideology of AGBell supremacists who increasingly use their lies to practice hate speech towards Deaf community whose their innocent lives has been claimed and stolen. It was not about data. It was about AGBell’s platform to magnify language bigotry and hate towards Deaf people today and tomorrow.

Today, the total of hate groups in America: 1,020—a huge jump in the last few years in the age of Trump. AGBell is the most invisible hate group towards Deaf people is also showing a weakness toward them as the world’s smallest minority and gain of hate groups in America.

Just like Deaf people are the world’s most invisible people where Deaf people has been experiencing a rising climate of hate because of bigots in AGBell’s divisions. The data only offers to hide the hatred ad how much it has been revoked and ignored, the truth is so much for all of us to do in order to become a stronger society to challenge hate practices, especially by AGBell.

Like I said, it does not take one hour to call out ROAR, as a hate group just because Deaf community thinks as an expert answer to label them is a big mistake. That is what culture of hate looks like—the assumption in many shapes and forms that does not meet the norm in the society. It is an act of character assassination.

There was never been anyone like Alexander Graham Bell in America. Never has leadership of AGBell been formed in so many conflicts of interest. Is it noticeable that so many questionable characters have filled it? And, until AGBell, Deaf community has never faced such a full-fledged attack on our most cherished principles: Protect ASL and state of being Deaf.

Clearly, I am disappointed that Deaf community thinks it is best to call ROAR, filled of Deaf people as good group, filled with ASL/DEAF-HEART to call them a hate group. That’s low. We should call AGBell as a hate group instead of belittling its own Deaf population.

In what ways did hate group define Deaf people to escape truth from language destruction? In what ways were those attempts to hide? We all need to remember the truth what AGBell has done with the lessons of the hate practices to continue genocide, language bigotry, and ideologically extremist, anti-Deaf, insensitive to ASL, is a big step to face the danger to Deaf people’s democracy in ASL and state of being Deaf.

Beginning with the AGBell administration, it has been nothing but all one—one-sided community: language bigots, and now, thanks in part to lies and distortions of hate-wing media, where AGBell has attacked Deaf people in social media with its base, they might have achieved its goals, and it starts with ROAR to stop the ideological practice of hate, and it is hardly a hate group. That is against the principle of ROAR’s democracy and it is called: truth to everything what Deaf community should stand for. Do not become puppets for AGBell.

On the final note, we can stop hate and opportunism from AGBell organization and it is without that AGBell is a hate group where plenty of corruption, back room deals even with the data. For 140+ years, AGBell has been the source of bigotry confronting Deaf America. Let’s stop the corrupt abuses of bullies like AGBell.

What made ROAR a hate group in the first place that believes in freedom for civilization? How can ASL protect themselves from AGBell’s lies, disinformation, and its enemies? Can Deaf community we live in return the most important question of all in our lives, to its trust-mongering roots to protect ASL and state of being Deaf in healthiest formula?

Cloaked Truth about Alexander Graham Bell

13631628_10154316914539441_2027768297190758337_n.jpg

Hate group like Alexander Graham Bell an authority on Deaf people, who monitors Deaf people incessantly and people never understood the word “bigotry” that time in 20th century that gives him the power to spread ignorance so people can be an educated voter are even more frightening. It is important to question yourself on where you learn and understand the biased, irrational thinking and culture of fear from.

Alexander Graham Bell shows a fictional crime drama. Is that not the truth and the facts we are supposed to gather? Does it mean our brains can be easily manipulated and this is precisely why we need to question our own belief system and ourselves as well, too; Our brains can easily focus on one certain thing; one Deaf child get robbed.

If we see a story where a Deaf child’s language deprivation has dropped in a society that was too hard for our brain to ignore in any humanistic context sociologically. The question whether we should monitor our own biases and prejudices. The society was supposed to be the “best” to design a society by knowledge from people that has even studied certain fields at hand.

Crimes against Deaf children are usually committed by Alexander Graham Bell’s practices where it has become a brutal isolation, hunger, and deprivation. Since Deaf children are the highest number of any issue as social problem that affects Deaf children worldwide, some 98% lost to language deprivation. Education is the best asset in their lives.

This country, United States of America—-has been bastardized through language manipulation of mass media that has oppressed Deaf people daily. Can we challenge these irrational haters out there?

For example, Alexander Graham Bell Association has expanded an office in Spain to create Alexander Graham Bell International with hopes to create offices all over the world.

We must remember that social media is powerful and Alexander Graham Bell is using social media to create underground group meetings, forums, community events, cookies and milk, cheese and wine and manipulate them for the greed and the growing problem of the manipulation of information all over the social media world.

Let’s overcome adversity, emotion and show the strongest knowledge in the eyes of Deaf people.
