Harry H. Laughlin’s Hatred of Deaf People

Hearing supremacy is a hellavu drug. A mind filled with hatred speaks a sober heart. History did not teach us enough about haters that comes out of their mouth right into the public when they feel safe because of eugenics ideology. Not only that, but Whiteness is like a drug.

After I learned the history about Harry Hamiliton Laughlin, one of the staunchest supporters of eugenical research and policy in the United States in the first half of the 20th century, where Laughlin writes a letter to Professor Dr. Eugene Fischer, President of International Congress for the Scientific Investigation of Population Problems in 1935, responsible for the sterilization of Deaf people where the Nazi party filled with white supremacy loved his idea and used his model in 1933 to verbally and physically assault Deaf people by sterilization.

If it was in 2019, would Harry Laughlin be prosecuted for a hate crime? Would that be a prosecutorial slam dunk……but white privilege gets in the way. Wasn’t he possibly suffering from a lithium imbalance? Isn’t paranoia approaching severe personality disorder characterized by a constant suspicion that Laughlin have sinister motives against Deaf people?

When I learned about the history about Harry Laughlin through Equal Justice Initiative, one of my favorite organization, commented: “On this day [December 2nd] in 1922, eugenicist Henry Laughlin published the “model sterilization law” which encouraged lawmakers to develop more effective and “constitutionally acceptable” sterilization laws.” and realized that he was public enemy number one influencing American eugenics policy. That was where Alexander Graham Bell loved his idea.

The anger, and the arrogance towards innocent Deaf people Harry Laughlin did not know, and cannot fathom to understand this hatred. The damage control has been done. Laughlin who went after Deaf subjects for eugenic sterilization of personal power and a higher degree of self-esteem because it demonstrates that one feels good enough about himself to demand something better or higher from the world.

Harry Laughlin knew who Alexander Graham Bell, the leading eugenicist in the Deaf community who would publish articles on hereditary ‘Deafness’, and they were responsible for the destruction of the Deaf community.

Imagine if Harry Laughlin and Alexander Graham Bell who sit together in order to spew hatred towards Deaf people. Wake up! Inside the media propaganda is yet another effort to dismantle the Deaf community. Or, another effort to deter intellectual freedom to all the Deaf?

Would they really understand the painful history what Harry Hamiliton Laughlin and Alexander Graham Bell had caused enough destruction in the Deaf community? Where is the mistrust of what we see on the news outlets about Harry H. Laughlin and Alexander Graham Bell?

The sterilization of the Deaf people is the worst of all. The Deaf community began to sense differently.

When I first learned about Charles Darwin back in 1988 in eighth grade after taking Biology class, my hearing teacher would speak highly of Darwin’s work, also learned about Francis Galton whom I had no idea he was related to Charles Darwin as half-cousins in college days and told a history lesson where eugenics were taught in schools across the country, only many years later after I read Paddy Ladd’s Understanding Deaf Culture: In Search of Deafhood:

“Against this background, Darwin’s initially explosive ideas on evolution served to reinforce the medical discourse. Deaf people and their languages were confirmed as akin to those of other savages, and an atavistic throwback who, like them, ‘may fancifully be called living fossils [and] will aid us in forming a picture of the ancient forms of life’ ” (1859: 448)

That hit me hard. I had no idea until 2010 when I was 35. The book written by Paddy Ladd had changed my life completely. I feel the wind differently. I relate to the Deaf community and experience a bond with the Deaf community which clearly unknown to you.

Sociology had stolen my heart and became a student of Sociology, and learned that Harriet Martineau, the Mother of Sociology, Martineau was Deaf. I was surprised. I bet you do not know that either. Even my professor whom studied Martineau in graduate school had no idea that Martineau was Deaf.

Not even hearing professors ever mention anything about it. A pattern of ignorance? A certain weaving together of ignorance? Peace, freedom, and global health of the Deaf shall not be ignored.

Martineau was dating Charles Darwin’s older brother, Erasmus Alvey Darwin, and Darwin saw and grabbed the greatest ignorance, the slandering of Deaf people so great that not even an idea exists of what Darwin’s hatred should look like. Would it end all kinds of intellectual oppression? Darwin’s ideology rakes for the highest form of democracy in the broadest sense of hatred.

Despite the vast differences, would The Society for Biodemography and Social Biology, formerly American Eugenics Society apologize for Laughlin’s hatred of the Deaf people? Would they do so with a commitment to develop healthy task to overcome indifference, show of human compassion, that plagues the Deaf community?

Deaf people who lived in Hitler’s Europe, whom were targeted for the display of symbols of hate, thanks to Laughlin’s work. Dealing with the cultural differences, specifically, with the way of life of the ‘minorities’ who live in the society. After reading Crying Hands: Eugenics and Deaf People in Nazi Germany by Horst Biesold, by cultural norms, in processing of a hate crime, and that becomes an issue that all hate crime sessions by Laughlin’s work, must tackle.

Isn’t hate crime by no means unique in the broadest respect of the Deaf people?

If The Society for Biodemography and Social Biology, formerly as American Eugenics Society, refuses to apologize for Laughlin’s action, why should Deaf people be punished more severely because of social and psychological pathology?

Laughlin as an American citizen who breeds in White Supremacy as he received an honorary degree from the Nazi-controlled, University of Heidelberg for the work of race-cleansing. Hate crime violates constitutional rights of the Deaf people, especially Deaf babies.

We must always remind ourselves as well as all others how our Declaration of Independence makes our country different from any other nation around the world. The Declaration proclaims that we have inalienable rights to “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.”

American Eugenics Society, under the establishment of Harry H. Laughlin in 1926 who was served as the Superintendent of the Eugenics Record Office, probably the best known, if not the most oppressive, White supremacist in America–all but faded into culture of hate.

Will Deaf people ever get a formal apology from The Society for Biodemography and Social Biology?

Abreham “Abe” Zemedagegehu: A Good Example of An Invisible Deaf Soul

YES, HELP!

My name is Jason “JT” Tozier. I am a Deaf Justice advocate and returned citizen who hails from the Pacific Northwest. Deaf since birth, my passion for Deaf justice emerged through personal struggles with obtaining access to those things that members of the hearing community often take for granted—education and the justice system, are just two examples. Now, I work to educate others about Audism and universal access.

Abreham “Abe” Zemedagegehu’s story is not an isolated incident. He was arrested and accused of stealing an iPad that was later found. His story simply highlights systemic failures of justice system. The struggles he experienced are truly emblematic of systematic oppression. His story reminds us that the legal system has made Deaf people nihilistic and weak by regarding pity and related sentiments as the highest virtues.

He was wrongfully convicted and spent six weeks in a Virginia jail without being provided with an American Sign Language (ASL) interpreter. Perhaps most alarming is that this all happened ten minutes away from Washington, D.C.—home of Gallaudet University, the world’s only Deaf university. Deaf people have used ASL there since 1864! That is over 150 years and 28 United States Presidents.

Zemedagegehu is Deaf. He uses ASL for communication, information, and knowledge. He was born and raised in Ethiopia, officially known as the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia; a country located in the Horn of Africa. He moved to America over 10 years ago to seek education and better accessibility. Today he is an American citizen.

His story begins with a warning that the oppression belongs to Deaf people, perhaps to no one yet living. Warnings aside, be begins by sketching the idea of declining vs. ascending life and culture. An animal (people who follow Darwin’s idea that Deaf people are animals), a species, or an individual is “depraved” when it loses its instincts for that which sustains its life, and “prefers what is harmful to it.”

The legal system in America denigrates Deaf citizens around us as mere “appearance”; a position grounded in the philosophy of Cesare Lombroso, the father of criminology/criminal anthropology and hence invents a “completely fabricated” world of pure imagination. Lombroso said once a baby is born and later finds out the baby is Deaf, they are quickly labeled as “criminals”, no matter what. Today, some of people who work in legal system still believe that theory. However, Lombroso’s theory is pure lie. Yet today, in 2015, people are not required to see the world falsely in order to remain a member in good standing in the American democracy. Deaf babies are not criminals.

Again, the legal system does not demand truth instead ideas, which produce repose or cheerfulness. At home is the higher and learned class—yet they represent themselves as the revengeful instincts of the oppressed class and tames Deaf citizens as uncivilized barbarian, needing to subjugate wild “beasts of prey”, who cannot control their own “will to power”. The way it did so was to make them sick, making them thereby too weak to follow their destructive instincts.

Thus, the legal system today views Deaf citizens as shrewdly inculcating guilt, resentment, and other values hostile to life among their oppressors as a form of ideological germ warfare, taking care not to become fully infected themselves.

The legal system deduces that the Deaf citizens shall not sought to retreat into a state of extreme withdrawal from ‘the world’, undisturbed by reality of any kind. They reject all strong feelings, favorable or otherwise. Their fear of pain, even in infinitely small amounts, by placing the center of life outside of life, in “the beyond” that they deprive life of any focus of center whatsoever.

Deaf citizens are the invisible souls automatically levels all rank in society: “Invisible” conceded to every Lombroso has far been greatest, the most malignant attempt to assassinate Deaf citizens. The legal system should apologize for the discrimination, oppression and abuse that Zemedagegehu endured. It should right all of its wrongs.

Illinois Superintendent Depraves American Sign Language

I for one have always believed that any superintendent in Deaf schools who are support Alexander Graham Bell Association’s policy in the bias against the Deaf students. Cued Speech is a bias and manages to weave itself a very haunting reputation that is extremely difficult to catch and comprehend. When it comes to ASL, the bias would be laid on the table and then allow itself to be examined, thus becoming easily erased and eradicated. Let’s call End American Sign Language Bias Now. You see, Poets may take one view; both will delight in one of the most curious of all the curious biases against the Deaf students. The superintendent of Illinois School FOR the Deaf and the team in this manner and for the betterment of all the Deaf students is responsible for bias.

ASL are very much part of Deaf history, believe it or not. Language belittlement and bigotry persist as mechanisms of oppression and hatred around Deaf schools where Deaf children are being housed. It is a tough commentary on the cultural and social life of Deaf children that a written blog post such as this becomes necessary. The dramatic cases cited above are but extreme illustrations of widespread; daily acts of aggression directed toward ASL. I use the term ASL purposefully here, since these acts are nationwide and heinous. It is a hate speech, in fact, an assault against all Deaf children who are well honed in ASL who to define themselves. Deaf children are always in a danger of being defined in another language, that is, a spoken language.

If you want to know what it is like to have migraine, ask a migraine patient. However, if you want an explanation of how migraine occurs—what it is, what causes it, and how to treat it—you are better off consulting someone who studies it. What is true of migraine is also true of being Deaf. It is partially for this reason that he has drawn primarily on the literature—both the theoretical and historical literature and personal observations.

This is a language war in state of Illinois and it typically takes place in a fog of language confusion. The word “war” is derived from the Old English “ wyrre,” which means, “to bring into confusion.” Peculiar things happen to the mind in “language war”, and the person who actually tastes what it is like is not necessarily well placed to understand the psychological processes underlying them.

One reason for this is the fact that “language war” is all about denying other languages, and as such it violates one of our most profound, most visceral taboos—a taboo that goes to the heart of what it means to be a social primate.

Charles Darwin’s “survival of the fittest” becomes highly demanding of any Deaf children’s rights to use ASL today. Since 1880 Milan Resolution, the political freedoms and legal protections has taken away from Deaf children under extreme attack. What major details were left out of the general public about what happened on September 11th, 1880 and why is it not publicly acknowledged in the mainstream news?

For example, Deaf children are current survivors of all the subsequent abuses at that school being forced to learn Cued Speech under Alexander Graham Bell Association’s nose. Wipe off that bugger!

It is called Hegemony. For example, there is a quote approved by the Alexander Graham Bell Board of Directors by a unanimous vote on July 11, 2008. “Through its participation in a variety of coalitions, AG Bell collaborates with organizations that support other modes of communication, such as Cued Speech, Signing Exact English, Total Communication and American Sign Language.”

Isn’t that a corruption that depraves American Sign Language? That is precisely why the superintendent practices hate speech against Deaf students there.

There are many concerns but the big one that needs to be seen that the superintendent allows hearing teachers to become a CULT, for example, P.R. Berthon explains in 1993 the word in Latin, it means to inhabit…and are (ure) is defined as ‘the result of’; this in the broadest sense, one might define culture as ‘the result of human action‘. It is Anti-Deaf Culture.

SPEECH= any action that hurts, offends or judges others;

HATE= A feeling of aversion or hostility;

DEAF= a collectivity: the people as a whole that is regarded as opprobrious, as a source of ignominy (humiliating)

Charles Darwin, he thought Deaf people were evolved from monkeys and had inability to repeat the same sound implies inability to reason and that is where Cued Speech (the form of Oralism) comes in like eating a chocolate candy then passes out. On the other hand, the superintendent runs its sophisticated, spinning public relations, continues to mislead our society in one of many Internet publications–it is very much Aristotelian institution, they have been inventing its own rules, for example, the key terms to oppress ASL and its Deaf culture and the identity of Deaf in “hearing” status form.

The superintendent knew that Deaf children are not radical enough to commit a life of livelihood of ASL, and “ENCOURAGES” to follow their orders when Cued Speech teachers are present. They are presented with two options in the book, and are not completely sold on either of them.

One compels their head, the other, their heart. Their independence adherence to their own values in selecting trust is ultimately dismissed by school system which has radically disrupt the rule of not using ASL when Deaf students wish to use their language preference. When Deaf students violate the rules of using ASL, the superintendent punishes them. The consequences are far more “ill” than Deaf students actually expounds in their letter. For their freedom to use ASL, they must make the ultimate sacrifice.

Turn the Lights On!

One of my favorite quotes I often use for a good debate with people, “A mathematician is a blind man in a dark room is looking for a black cat which is not there” by Charles Darwin. This quote is exactly the same sentiment what David Call’s “I can hear! I can sing!” is all about. The fat cats in the drawing show a strong message between science and nature. Science is about arranging Deaf ears and nature is about a biological fact that is very healthy: Deaf. Darwin’s work was very highly respectable in science world leading that evolution would change everything even for Deaf babies with cochlear implants (CI).

In CI, there is frequently a connection between the signal and the noise, be it the message or the sound of violin, and the system is a battery-operated and it is not a natural at all. Creativity, the ability to produce novel expressions through music is very much absent in CI users that do not depend on displacement, duality, and cultural transmission.

David Call’s message shows a mental entity in which a world seems perfect, comparing to this present world. The drawing was so powerful that it is time to confront the many challenges it faces in both ASL and sound-oriented principles even at Gallaudet University. The concern is that it has been compounded by the failure exhibited by the current university administration to understand the nature of dangers and the integrity of critical thinking—it is gone.

CI industries are aggravated by the excessive influence of an audistic doctrine—the BIG MONEY. They do not care if the CI are artificial and man-made promoting for awareness, not acquisition, therefore the person David Call drew also shows that it is an individualistic as playing piano, trombone, flute, violin or any musical instruments. There is NO guarantee to the benefit of them at all.

There is a large marine mammal known as manatees (sea cows) that they possess vocal chords which give them the ability to speak like humans, but do not do so because they have no ears with which to hear the sound. Give manatees CI!

They fail to do their professional research and deliberation; they voted on a resolution to set up CI center on the campus at Gallaudet University to give CI users the more power. They marginalize DEAF people down. The big money flowing through CI industries are making a dangerous commitment to exclusive and academic use of CI, a commitment to intellectual excellence and responsiveness in CI, and a commitment to scholarly and creative work and research in CI at Gallaudet University that practices the speculative nature of knowledge: Darwinism.

When the society oppresses Deaf people and children under great pressure to get CI, they are treated like manatees. Darwin would be very happy! If you want to know more information, read his famous work, Origins of Species published in 1859, and also, read a book written by Douglas C. Baynton, Forbidden Signs: American Culture and the Campaign against Sign Language in a chapter called Savages and Deaf Mutes: Species and Race.

The channels: 22. A BIG FRAUD. Charles Darwin’s cousin, Francis Galton, the father of Eugenics. Easy to figure it out. Turn the lights on!
