Dwight Benedict: Stop the Practice of Discrimination, Shaming, and Cruel Punishment

‘Bystander’ to the Deaf Community

1495789752720649.png

Yes, we can make a difference to stop hate. Is Deaf community as humanity as ever? Our impact on hate depends more on how we, as humanity, respond than as we the Deaf people do. Both are very critical right now—the question, which is more effective and community accountability? Hate is invisible to the Deaf community.

Stalking and harassment seems to be a perception among Deaf community. And, to be direct, it does show to verge on stigmatizing basically “normal” behavior. It may be even is true and sad, but Deaf community essentially using the scarlet letter of “harassment” to penalize Deaf returning citizen who they resent very much. We need to know that hate will not make us safe.

The biggest problem in the Deaf community: Bystanders—the context in which this occurs more often. They do not care about hate. They do not care about abuse their power, to understand that as soon as hate is created, it will be abused at least Deaf community who will wield it.

How can we solve this sociological problem: Bystanders in Deaf community and why they refuse to accept community accountability? Dividing into hate, separated by our own experience. Silence is not even cool.

Can Deaf Returning Citizens Exist Without Deaf Community?

il_340x270.1189917083_fb0w.jpg

Can Deaf returning citizens exist without Deaf community? I do not think so. I believe that is important for information, knowledge, and communication. No one can take away the attribution of success and breach human rights. Bringing awareness about the term of “Returning Citizen” would make all difference.

No more “felons”—no more “convicts”—no more “offenders”—no more negativity. Returning citizen is a positive term. Can Deaf returning citizens deserve to be let alone to resume their life without the haters breathing down their necks? It goes way too far in the continuous punishment. As a nation, I believe that the failure of ignoring hard facts and expert opinions to be discussed in many public policy issues even in Deaf community.

When you see someone bully a Deaf returning citizen, how will you react to it? Does it make it an impressive train wreck? Makes you feel good about it?

I can bully and make Deaf returning citizens ashamed….I bring hatred to their faces…I make them cover their faces by how cyber-bullying can solve problems. I am the greatest bully, and they are inferior. I can do a good job by teaching bullies because it is awesome feeling to do this!”

Have we forgot about the importance of liberty and justice for all? Remember, the society has been trying to teach us the awareness of how to stop bullying including cyber-bullying and end the same way: suffer and humiliation. Do we really understand the Eighth Amendment to the United States Constitution: Cruel and Unusual Punishment?  This is the real epidemic out there that needs to be addressed and examined. Break the stigma.

National Bullying Prevention Month: Deaf Returning Citizens

bystander.jpg

I would like to focus on writing about Deaf returning citizens and how to support them instead of bullying them. Deaf returning citizens recognize the society’s described behavior as a form of bullying which is and has been normalized in Deaf community, like competition over sharing. It is important to call out bullying as the social sickness it is.

That said, the Deaf community is now exposing the emotional hurt of their world and in this writing, tied it into fear of bullying drivers. As a member of Deaf community and a returning citizen who had experienced bullying and dealt with the bulk of the public accusations were kicked off in a style. October is National Bullying Prevention Month.

Since the bullying popped into my life scene and become part of my social and professional landscape. My life routinely overlaps at events and social media. I say hello friendly to each other in the way that you are friendly to someone who shares your goals and a generous portion of your friend group, but maybe not a lot of mutual respect.

To me, bullies have always been a pitch-perfect caricature of the haters. While I truly respect some people’s energy, and most of their goals, I have found their political tactics clueless, and their grasp of bullyinh tenuous. Some of my friends recognized this, too, and either steered clear or took an “it takes all kinds…” attitude towards those people with privileges.

This is a hard lesson here. Deaf returning citizens need to be more vigilant and protect themselves and their allies, but they hope not to lose trust and not lose their edge by building walls that protects them from the utmost extreme bullying at all times. We need to break down bullying dominance of Deaf community and look at their own behaviors that contribute to it, protect it, or are simply just bad behavior.

Working harder to break the social norms can go a long way. And what happens when we have a person or acquaintances that callously do not follow that rule in our midst? Then we protect others, as we would want to be protected. We do it with courage and tenacity. It starts all with you.

A+silhouette+of+a+head+with+the+words+What's+killing+me+written+inside+with+words+floating+all+around+the+head+Some+words+are+Shame,+guilt,+rage,+obsession,+stress,+disgrace,+insecurity,+depression,+anger.jpg

Shame? Guilt? Revenge? Anger? Hate?

Upon the community initial call-out, the bullying is not accepted and encourages the community to take full responsibility if they ever wanted to continue to play in a role in the community. No body has really come forward.

1) Especially in a time of transition, Deaf returning citizens are very important part of the Deaf community.

2) Can Deaf community embodies the qualifications, character, and commitment to empower Deaf returning citizens that are essential to success and high achievement?

3) Will we empower Deaf returning citizens as members of the Deaf community to see the present is a new opportunity for bold change that cannot imitate the past if it is to ensure the future?

Post-Election: Do Gallaudet University Have A System to Stop Hate Crimes?

IMG_7944.JPG

There has been a huge tide rise of hate crimes in America after the presidential election. Right now, we need to scope on the big focus: Deaf community—especially at Gallaudet University whether if hate crimes has been sparked any kind of form in bigotry, intimidation, and bullying that are in the same umbrella as hate crimes. Is there any kind of measurement in hate crime at Gallaudet? There has been virtually zero information to recognize the extent of hate crime. The truth is that we do not know whether in fact this is the reality we face at Gallaudet everyday.

The bigotry, intimidation, and bullying LGBT, minorities, even Deaf returned citizens. For the most part, existing ignorance are both too new and too flawed to protect them even as students where Gallaudet administration including Department of Public Safety (DPS) avoids the picture of changes over time. The term of “hate crime” has been going on since 1980s, it is not new information today. Bigotry, bullying, and intimidation has been motivated by negative picture of difference, and the politics of hate has been practiced by Gallaudet administration for long time.

For example, there is a Dean at Gallaudet University who encourages fear and mob mentality against Deaf returned citizen is no secret. We need to stop the continuation of unwanted bullying is important to challenge power and intimidation by the administration. The most difficult thing is that Gallaudet University is a federally funded, and they were required not to bully people of color, LGBT, Deaf returned citizens and many of the hate crimes are unreported in Gallaudet’s system—including DPS. Again, we need to remind that less-known law called Deprivation of Civil Rights Under Cover of Law is not allowed even on the campus, too. Protected students have their own intellectual property that should not be violated—again, being bullied by people who have the power is an act of desecration and human violation.

What is Deprivation of Civil Rights Under Cover of Law? It is third federal statute concerns actions committed by public officials—most often the police who makes sure to have people deprived by their constitutional rights.

We need to challenge three questions to ponder whether Gallaudet University have a system to stop hate crimes: 1) Do they understand that we are being bullied and be told to be in silence? 2) Do they understand the nature of bullying? 3) Does minorities, LGBT, and Deaf returned citizens even identify their struggle faced by the Administration of Gallaudet University? Look at the brochure provided by Gallaudet University, Anti-Bullying and Harassment:

-What is Bullying? Bullying is a form of aggressive behavior manifested by the use of force or coercion to affect others, particularly when the behavior is habitual and involves an imbalance of power.

What is Harassment? Harassment is defined as a subset of bullying that is specifically covered by law (sex, race, disability, etc.) Harassment is sometime used to describe bullying between adults.

-FORMS OF BULLYING: A) Physical: Harm to someone’s body or property. B) Emotional: Harm to someone’s self-esteem or feeling of safety. C) Social: Harm to someone’s group acceptance.

If you feel that you are being violated by bullying, intimidation or experience hate-motivated, then get in touch with U.S. Department of Education: Office of Civil Rights, Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, Title IX of the Education Amendment Act of 1972, and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1972 and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 and ACLU (American Civil Liberties Union).

It is important to report to U.S. Department of Education: Office of Civil Rights or even D.C. Police —because Gallaudet University Administration and DPS will sweep under the rug to make sure it does not exist in Hate Crime Statistics Act (HSCA)—a federal law passed in 1990—a big problem on Gallaudet campus. Please think about it.

AGBell: Master Manipulators

AGBL-Logo-768x679.png

It is no secret that AGBell manipulate parents of Deaf children today and tomorrow. In many bullying tactics, including that particularly large swath of lies that involve someone’s monetary profit and someone else’s loss, can it be said that it is democracy or not? We all know that, by dint of constant repetition, Deaf CANNOT made to appear HEARING, good can get transformed into evil, and myth may take the place of reality, cochlear implants are all about bullying, some can be severe bullying, some can be extreme bullying, the degree of bullying is all the same.

This month, October is to bring awareness about Anti-Bullying and this is perfect friction of the territory of this planet, seems to engage a totally disproportionate attention of the print and broadcast media of the world what AGBell has done to thousands and thousands of survivors including parents as survivors. Unfortunately, much of what the media tell us—in editorializing in published articles are endlessly repeated myths what AGBell has manipulated many of us.

As two evenings ago, I finished reading a book written by Laura Mauldin, Made to Hear: Cochlear Implants and Raising Deaf Children really blew my mind away. This book needs to be discussed in all of classrooms—and outside of classrooms in this matter, too. Let me summarize why people should read this book: it is about serious global downturn of the modern era of globalization—cochlear implant marketing failed to do what they should have done to encourage serious damage on Deaf people.

intelligence_explosion_Dewey.png

Sociology holds dearly to my heart, I wish the book would add few important terms such as “intelligence explosion”—a term coined by British Mathematician, I.J. Good in 1965—the same year American Sign Language (ASL) was coined by William Stokoe, Jr.—is what exactly cochlear implant industries are attempting to destroy ASL.

Singularity: (noun) The moment when technological change becomes so rapid and profound, it represents a rupture in the fabric of human history. For example, computers are getting faster, everybody knows that. Also, computers are getting faster faster— that is the rate at which they are attempting to make cochlear implants growing and yet, it is an epic failure.

When Deaf children are born, they are what they are called Prima Facie, a Latin expression meaning at first sight or first face. Who decides who gets to be immortal when it comes to cochlear implant companies and…AGBell? By removing “DEAF”, will we have lost our essential humanity? Mauldin writes in the book that strikes me hard the most when Linda, the principal of the school who observed the implanted children in classrooms, “We think that deafness is going to be a thing of the past someday in the future”—making it so easy to have word DEAF disappeared from the Mother Earth is really a HATE SPEECH. No, really, it is!

AGBell- sponsored dinners manipulating parents and people with lies and encouraging language bigotry. Mauldin also writes, “When advocates for sign said that sign was the “natural” language of the deaf”, Linda looked over at Nancy and angrily told her that English was her natural language, not sign. “Culture evolve, and with technology it evolves faster.” That is exactly a good example of intelligence explosion or in better terms, artificial intelligence.

Strivright, a strong ORAL school in New York, look at the word, very clever word: Striv=STRIVE—RIGHT. COCHLEAR IMPLANT: STRIVE RIGHT! Like AGBell freaks must strive against using ASL—that is a perfect bigotry. Strivright’s Philosophy: “focuses on teaching children to speak and hear, not relying upon compensatory skills such as sign language or lip reading”—reminds me of Tucker-Maxon Oral School (TMOS), Oregon’s worst language bigotry against Deaf children.

Socrates once said, “What is the point,” he asked, “of walls and warships and glittering statues if the men who build them are not happy?” What is the reason for living life, other than to love it?” Is that why AGBell building walls and warships to remove Deaf children’s pursuit of happiness for their greed?

Socrates was nominated one of the Seven Pillars of Wisdom, his nickname “The Source”. Therefore, in my opinion, Deafhood is about Seven Pillars of Wisdom, too. Please read this book, Made to Hear: Cochlear Implants and Raising Deaf Children and share with your friends, instructors, teachers, professors, whoever.
