NAD #whitesupremacy #racism #hate
Last October 2020, National Association of the Deaf (NAD) made their top five priorities for 2020-2022. One of them: “Dismantling Racism in the Deaf Community.”
About twenty (20) minutes away from NAD headquarters to Washington, D.C.,—where ‘Million MAGA March’ known as a white supremacy (hate spewers) rally on November 14, 2020, profiting from white supremacy to attack the message whose people are standing up for racial justice.
Hate ideologies are everywhere. Even in the Deaf community that has chosen to stay as a silent majority as Stephi-Wagner writes that “pain travels through families until someone is ready to feel it”.
Yet, there was none of objection from NAD, for example, where the video-sharing “public service announcement [PSA]” was not able to be presented…because the message would need to understand the social determinant of health whose the practice of racism can destroy the society, that is the most important message in the Deaf community.
According to PEW research: “With the exception of YouTube – the video-sharing platform used by 73% of adults – no other major social media platform comes close to Facebook in terms of usage”
The real leadership to combat and acknowledge racism on their platform, and prioritizes the integrity of our democracy. Cultural memory of racism has deep scars in their lifetime, the tragedies and inconveniences have been neglected long enough, a misery at will.
Society is a multiracial democracy and the voice of the Deaf community from all walks of life is important and recognizes politically correct values of today that are not reflected and step back from the unconscious bias, and rethink how to dismantle racism. This is the way.
The doors were about to open when the opportunity began to send a message around the giant social media.
NAD goes ahead with this idea of how to dismantle racism in the Deaf community because of Breonna Taylor, George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, and all those Black people who were killed in the name of injustice, there were several of BIPOC Deaf people who were killed years before 2020. We must end the promotion of hate and white supremacy—once and for all.
Once problem areas have been addressed, it is important to build TRUST in order to dismantle racism.
In August 1963: ‘The March on Washington’ known as Civil Rights march, so huge with 250,000 people getting together to overcome the white supremacy in the front of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C. Lincoln would be proud! His legacy must not be forgotten!
The 1963 March on Washington led to the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 defeating the systemic racism and white supremacy. NAD was formed in 1880, it took all the way until 1965, some 85 years of turmoil or took almost a century where Black members were finally accepted into the NAD, to address the injustices one by one.
That’s where legacy must be recognized at Lincoln Memorial. After all, Lincoln has a message…
Upcoming next Saturday, December 12, 2020, white nationalists are coming back to create a racism-filled rally back into Washington, D.C. spewing hardcore racism, feeding hate, benefiting white supremacy in the front of the Lincoln Memorial. Lincoln would be offended big time. Destroying his legacy. That does not reflect American democracy.
Will NAD go ahead and reclaim the mantle of freedom and dismantle racism in the Deaf community showing action and fighting for the pursuit of life, liberty, equality and avoid the crash of democracy?
