Vote. Vote. Vote. Election is an important factor. Why? Democracy. What is democracy meant to you? In the past, democracy in America used to be respected. Now today’s democracy in America, it’s getting worse and broken. It is truly a constitutional crisis, ripping up United States Constitution, ignoring the respect of law, for example, a picture of Trump ripping up the U.S. Constitution in the root of the rich money. Federal laws were violated, bribery, and ignoring legal jeopardy.
What is democracy? The author, Alexis de Tocqueville wrote a book, “Democracy in America”, is a large book, 500+ pages, understanding the depth of democracy, the quality of life, this book is highly recommended to read. I feel that it is important to share this information, where I have not seen anyone in the Deaf community discuss about this topic.
The Washington Post published recently,
“Trump is supposed to be preparing to hand over power. Will the government be ready?”
where it discusses under federal law, a President must report to Congress on pre-election presidential transition preparations twice: once at six months ahead and again at three months near before the election. We’ve passed the six months mark already. Nothing has happened.
What does it meant to you about that? Let’s take a look at Alexis de Tocqueville’s quote:
“The surface of American society is covered with a layer of democratic paint, but from time to time one can see the old aristocratic colours breaking through.”
When I first read the article about American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation being provided by Democratic presidential candidates across the country, and learned that Bernie Sanders as the front-runner by near and far, it is clearly that he is the people’s champion because he listens to ASL/Deaf community well. How would Presidential candidates cooperate with ASL/Deaf Community? Voting rights matter for Deaf people.
Compassion. Respect. Listen well.
While providing information is based on the notion that intellect consists of acknowledging ASL. Number one: ASL community knows that the importance of critical thinking, for it is the necessary starting place for acquiring information. Critical thinking is both respectful of the ASL/Deaf community.
Deaf people are seen an important citizens from across the country to receive ASL interpreters a greater understanding of how politics of hate, prejudice, discrimination, and language deprivation meant.
Bernie Sanders published a book, Our Revolution—leading the right to end bias for the most exploited people in the society. For one, Deaf community is the most exploited minority group in America. The challenges facing America is lack of discussion about Deaf people in politics. We must focus on today—and tomorrow–because ASL is a voting and human right.
Last April 2019, Bernie: “If somebody wants to go around perpetrating hate crimes, that person will pay a very, very heavy price, indeed”
The dangers of hate crime as it has been noted, it is characteristic of those who judge Deaf people and acknowledge their own bias. The flaws has been either known or unknown, the political and criminal minds; when a hate crime symbolizes in America, the centralism of U.S. flag has become a symbol of hate, amidst the denial of hate, though is confusion.
The culture of hate has been targeting ASL and destroying lives of the Deaf, as in the practice of human consciousness, and how often do we see it and let the bystanders enough to admit that the fear mongers is cruel enough to judge ASL/Deaf community. The bigotry and hate of ASL is a human problem that has its roots in language deprivation.
ASL is a journey of intellectual transformation for Deaf people who believes in politics is a good cause with incredible number of gifts to enjoy and share–talents, dreams, and desires that can make ASL/Deaf community rich, and continue to explore.
Bernie’s camp is a bold move into politics of Deaf America and believes in access to ASL for communication, information, and knowledge. It is all about encountering a change in winds with good counsel and guidance to a future to believe in challenging bias of ASL. The willingness to move beyond conformity and stereotype, to turn Deaf community into strength, and ASL into intellectual discourse and put aside self-judgement, and honor the unique gifts they were born with.
Bernie’s camp invests with a heavy heart to give ASL/Deaf community to hold their hands on the steering wheel in right direction whose standards expect nothing as we can ever appreciate. And, what would the relationship of ASL be to the political world?
What would it like not to live without history that reflects all of us who Deaf people are? The history of idea of creating “poll” goes back to George Gallup who defined the American information to give voters the right to democracy, and most importantly, the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) gives any person has the right to seek access for information at the request including the right to poll.
Guaranteed. Deaf people have seen the Gallup Poll sharing national news with anchors talking about it on national television, there is no way to miss this. It has changed the history of American politics including our own Deaf community.
It is a poll that Deaf people have right to gather their opinions for the fact of the matter is voting that creates truth to understand the power-struggling experiences and should not hide the emotional suffering in denial, and somehow suffering and does not know it.
Remember the times where there would be a tent with pollsters asking someone to taste the hidden drink which it would be COKE or PESPI. If you are right with the chosen drink brand, you get a prize. Come on, we cannot forget that. I did that. I like Pepsi. It is a simple and democratic poll. We are created as statisticians because we have the right to vote even for a poll.
We are strong believers in polling, too. When someone Deaf writes: “Deaf Life is abusing its powerful influence in the Deaf community.” That’s far fetched.
That is a one-sided perspective and never read diverse variety of information chewing influence away, and the poll created by DEAF LIFE is simple, harmless and a human right for anyone to vote in a poll when it comes to LEAD-K and Alexander Graham Bell. Would you react differently if it was George Veditz partners up with Alexander Graham Bell? What about truth partners up with toxicity? Would it go quietly deliberate and depend on the information to create their own viewpoints in polling? Do Deaf people have right to get Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), too?
There is the subscription in truth for freedom of information act and Deaf community should not deal with Alexander Graham Bell getting away with the fear of having a different opinion from the rest of Deaf community like us. Within polls like this one in Deaf community, we would want to fit in society without fear and hatred from Alexander Graham Bell. That kind of thinking does not develop social justice that shows many survivors who experienced language deprivation from the biggest oppressor, Alexander Graham Bell.
That is the kind of justice that is rightfully important to all of us and we need more people like us that are courageous enough to vote in a poll to stand up against what is wrong in society we deal with every day, and it starts with us to make a better place for all of us to live safely as much as possible, and that starts with a poll that is historic enough.
It sends a wrong message with final answer: Because Deaf community continues to live in Alexander Graham Bell’s America where its American citizens gets their news from known-sided organization like AGBell filled with propaganda and disinformation which best option for a language to learn other than rejecting American Sign Language off the book to control Deaf people’s use of the powers of emotionalism to allow modes of communication like Cued Speech, Oralism, Cochlear Implants all are Alexander Graham Bell’s favorite tools that will improve English in listening and writing far skyrocket…..the very same fear in and of themselves that ASL is powerful and best choice of all languages.
It should concern all of us that we continue to ignore the facts and follow our emotions when it comes to give Alexander Graham Bell the crown like a king. What should public opinion like this poll be based on? Should it be based on forgotten experiences? What would it mean to us in the eyes of educational polling? It also abuses its powerful influence of journalism that is often not enough discussed in Deaf community.
Yes, I voted—even as a Deaf returned citizen, I have the rights to vote. I won my rights to vote after I fought for it once I moved to Washington, D.C; translate and interpret for myself. In a true democracy, Deaf returned citizens in order to review the facts and, through a critical discourse, participate in actions and events that will support our conclusions.
I also decided to commit myself to support criminal justice reform for Deaf returned citizens, which was a thrilling experience for me. As it turned out, it has been difficult at the basics of the oppression in the society; however, being a Deaf returned citizen has been troubling for me because I could barely make it there.
As a Deaf returned citizen, how did I reclaim my rights to vote again? Democracy-nothing more than a re-election tools for politicians and yet provides better awareness. What is not generally known by people in general is that Deaf returned citizens had been harshly criticized besides the misdirection given by United States Constitution, I experienced plenty of ugly unintended consequences and understood the humiliation and shame–Top it all of, the laws and their derivatives are unconstitutional in that they violate my 1st, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, and 14th Amendments to the United States Constitution in my case that has been violated ex post facto, too.
I will not be silenced. Democracy is the most beautiful thing!
