NAD: Whitewashing Race & Citizenship

NAD (National Association of the Deaf) who claims to serve the Deaf community in full information, whitewashing historical statements in the name of bigotry when we look at our lives, in the past and present, if we are honest of our time, the effort by NAD is concerned.

Mirrors of Destruction: Genocide in Deaf Community

holocaust-genocide-studies-clark-university.jpg

After watching Carey Ballard’s ASL video about 10 stages of genocide in Deaf community, it was very good video! Deaf people need to stand up and oppose genocide laws. How many prominent stories would need to criticize the practice of genocide before the courts will listen to us? We all need to remind ourselves that sharing a story is powerful. It starts with you. United States Supreme Court motto: Equal Justice Under Law. We need to study International Court of Justice Seal carefully and examined.

With genocidal practices going around Deaf community in America, the rise of cochlear implants is not even funny, we must continue to resist and believes in empowering Deaf community harmed by cochlear implant companies. We believe in sharing truth to power and it is the merit key to pursuit of happiness. When a former cochlear implant user share their stories to carry their lived experience suffering against this dehumanizing system, the stories will make all the difference.

To resist against the fast-spreading genocide practice—Deaf community need to build an important movement and be strong. I believe in the power of invisible stories. It would bring cochlear implant survivors together to build powerful change of agent whom of them suffers against corruption. We also need to bring up discussions and understand more about the stages of dehumanization, pedagogy of the oppressed, and marginalization. We need to overcome the ignorance and culture of fear about Deaf people.

The hearts and minds of Deaf community do not need to be viewed as weak people and easily targeted for profits. The stage of genocide needs to be challenged in attitudes and beliefs that created fear, oppressing Deaf community directly impacted by the larger, if not, biggest dehumanizing system. MJ Bienvenu wrote, “We need to ask a larger question……why do we need Deaf Studies?” in Bienvenu’s article quoted from ‘Deaf Studies in the Year 2000: New Directions.’ It is indeed a critical thinking question that we all need to set a good leadership for better directions to stop the mass of cochlear implants.

I believe it was written in 1993 or 1994. Now it is 2018, and the surge of cochlear implants is becoming a global genocide. The state of cochlear implants is raking in big cash these days. It is becoming a booming economy that helped push genocide to record high. And….it is only beginning.

The goal of wiping the term, ‘Deaf’ off the face of Mother Earth is a reflection of oppressive and hateful leadership. Cochlear implant companies and the leadership of Alexander Graham Bell Association remains a lying dweller in education rankings, the divide between Deaf people has grown into a different picture.

Deaf babies are being targeted for profits, and I am dismayed how the status quo carries around Deaf people. Cochlear implants are the biggest financial dysfunctions that are hurting the vulnerability of Deaf community in the long run. The treatment of Deaf people is not the only, or even the most grossly neglected injustice flowing from mass of lies.

There are plenty of hate crime, hate speech and biases against Deaf people every day, largely invisible in the biased media that would guarantee stakeholders, ignorant minds, and deficit thinkers to make sure Deaf community shall be oppressed daily is held accountable. The genocide practice also treats Deaf people as forgotten citizens, and it is an injustice that needs to examine by the fact that the majority of oppression to wipe out the term of ‘Deaf’ for the pleasure of advantaged would make them feel safer.

Why is that? Why Equal Justice Under Law? How come Deaf people no longer equal for the roots of justice?

Why Is There No Celebration About American Sign Language?

IMG_2162.JPG

Marvin Miller Gettin’ Ready!

December 1st, 2015 has a very special meaning. 60 years ago, Rosa Parks had her share of enemies, perhaps more than most. She was a human icon to do things by full measures. It is incredible how she taught from her heart and soul.

Earlier this afternoon, Marvin Miller had a class project given at Gallaudet University about The Dictionary of American Sign Language on Linguistic Principles that shook the Deaf community 50 years ago that became a trademark for Deaf History. Several generations would pass before every Deaf child in America should be familiar with the name of William Stokoe. The event was a sell-out with many people standing in the room. It is a good sign! It is a human icon by full measures to preserve ASL!

The big question, how come Gallaudet University did not choose to host a huge festival and honor ASL 50 years ago? Remember, the truth must be told that William Stokoe, Carl Croneberg and Dorothy Casterline were ridiculed badly by the administration and did not bother to give them full protection. Stokoe suffered the worst of all. The administration must be liable for community accountability that they are from an old school of thoughts, trained to view ASL as clients to justify their claims of misunderstanding and other things.

While the last stars faded, the reason Marvin Miller did this to uproot the awareness unfold in his mind. Step by step, like a chess game. ASL has been living a long life to look upon. No matter how splendid ASL at the apex of heroism, when the soul had fled it takes all education and soul-searching comes with it. ASL shows it plenty of vision remains of glory!

The festival that celebrates 50 years after the publication of ASL at Gallaudet shows that the last surviving administration issue would be their final order not to host the festival: Go back the way you came. It is too bad that the highest-ranking moneyman in the administration did not give full respect for ASL and the Deaf community. It is absolutely true that Gallaudet University, in 1980’s there was an assertion that ASL has NO PLACE in Deaf Education.

It is the history in the making to remember what Marvin Miller has done for Gallaudet community.

Hands waving!

The Ethical of Forgotten Mainstream Deaf Students

1901168_10152916188236120_7767135837384705535_n

Marvin Miller’s class project [Click me for bigger words to read]

Mainstreaming has often been labeled as the greatest cultural success in the eyes of school administration when they said that Deaf schools are a wasteland of academic fraud and face plants worthwhile only for those moments in life of great procrastination. The face plants are often the people who works in media and school administration that are too lazy to admit that the oppression inside mainstreaming schools around the country is the reason that mainstreaming students are struggling for the best academics available.

Added to the condemnation is the spirit uproar of Deafhood framework, which serves big purpose, but to open the door with the truth that the author Paddy Ladd writes in page 152,

It can be seen from the previous sections that the last 20 years have produced an enormous number of changes, for both better and worse, which have been enacted upon and in turn reacted to by what is a small Deaf community. These various wave have resulted in a tremendous increase in Deaf discourse and cultural ferment, with both positive and negative outcomes.”

What does it mean to me? The last 20 years has changed a lot—for example, in the special education report by the Department of Education and that is in America alone, 80% of Deaf students in mainstreaming struggle to meet with the state standards, for example, test scores in English, math, reading, science, history, and several subjects as hearing students excels. It shows that the society did not really pay full attention and they are responsible for the depression and the pursuit of happiness. The key word in the quote is enormous number of changes.

Is it hopeful or hopeless? Look a little deeper in Ladd’s book Understanding Deaf Culture: In Search of Deafhood, and one can find a glowing patchwork of literature masterpieces, available to any and all who wish to break free from severe academic oppression in mainstreaming by students themselves, if only for a moment, into 20th century discourses, for example, new Deaf discourses, 1975 to date, the Oralist response, 1980 to date. The following discourses, for whatever reason, appear full length and for all to see what the media did not reveal the TRUTH in the first place.

A quick disclaimer—the discourse is here one day but may be gone the next. As of this writing, there is available, but the future is uncertain. Now, in no particular order, there is an important discourse to focus on. Little more can be said about Deaf community fighting enough to keep Deaf schools open. This stuff is old enough now to be in the public domain, and there are days and days of severe academic oppression in mainstreaming schools for all to see. Within full-fledged mainstreaming comes into my life, the whole life, so it should be no surprise if some of it is hard to grasp. There is a good reason why I remain on the cultural compass for so long, however, and it is never been easier to explore my life and work.

However, it is very important to see primary source documentation with education in 2015 looks like. Let Mr. Marvin Miller be your guide with his latest project—a splendid work! The image above that will guide you to understand the adversity that Deaf students face today and tomorrow, even when the society disagree or when they are not able to support them as much as they would like because all of the things they are pulling this way. As shown in Marvin’s project, 75% of Deaf kids that were neglected category and none were in the popular category found in Gina Olivia’s book—is pretty much true to my experience in mainstreaming schools.

Along with Miller’s project, my concerns that mainstreaming students are having difficult time to be a human, and there is not enough encouragement despite their deep struggle. Now Deaf people are above and beyond the sun, in the brightness of the universe and the darkness of the cosmos waiting for the Big Bang. The collision of being Deaf so immense that they could never explain, so small that the Deaf people will never recover truly from it. We know that it is there; we know that Audism is coming back in the cycle over and over. Are Deaf people coming? Yes, they are coming!

Thank you, Marvin for your project that shows that Deaf students are the warriors of passionate protectors amongst the beasts the society created from dirt, water, and soul. Deaf people are the rib from that reason. Deaf people are the day, night, water, and air that the reason they were created before something created us. They are the flame and shine a light whose worth is only appreciated in the darkness. It is appropriate to stop Audism in mainstreaming schools! 268629_10150655450445472_21558520471_19159617_294318_n-JT
