ASL Is Not A National Disgrace

Alexander Graham Bell 2014 Volta Award winner, Ann Geers of the University of Texas at Dallas makes a damaging article that Deaf children who are cochlear implant users who do not NEED to learn American Sign Language in April 2017 report.

Geers has no right that she thinks ASL is not important or necessary. In fact, a growing body of biased research acknowledged by Alexander Graham Bell Association has shown that the face of hate, bigotry, Audism, and pure evil. This is the face that AGBell looks in Deaf children’s eyes and tells the world that they are going to do about it by eliminating ASL and use listening and speaking instead. This is un-American!

It is completely rubbish that in Geers’ words:

The findings are clear. Children who did not use sign language had better speech and language skills by statistically margins at 36 months postimplant, and these children also developed better spoken-language and reading skills near the end of elementary grades than children who used sign language.”

Karl White is the most ignorant, hidebound and Audist in recent American history is the perfect face of hate. It is time for Karl White to get off his high horse. The self-righteous White stated that despite the fact he supported Geers’s findings. White’s report along with Louis Cooper, ‘Opportunities and Shared Decision-Making to Help Children Who Are Deaf to Communicate’ in June 2017 report that would make your stomach sick.

maxresdefault.jpg

In fact, Karl White, who now believes that he makes decisions for Deaf children at his own authority—why is ASL subjected to a national disgrace and makes sure Deaf children would live with their now very public humiliation for the rest of their lives if they subject to the rules not to learn ASL or face punishment?

In my opinion, Ann Geers and Karl White brutalized Deaf children again and again—again, again, again—again, again—again. It smacks of Tabloidism! What happened to the legal and moral obligations set out by RESPECT ASL?

We all need to be aware that ASL is a productive member of society, believe it or not. White, Geers and the supporters of Alexander Graham Bell who believes ASL is bad and they need to take a serious look in the mirror because if we as an ASL society cannot move past this then why even try to destroy ASL in the first place? It is pure hate! Enough of placing ASL in national disgrace!

How to Challenge EPHPHATHA at Gallaudet University

My First Linocut Art!

IMG_4004.JPG

I am a great believer in numbers, my first love in education was math. So, I developed my first linocut art to show that the numbers are critical to us, recollection and validation of their lives in Deaf community how much American sign Language and Signed Languages around the world–that the effect of 1880 has shown Oralism a validity of lies.

MDCXX= 1620 and that was the year where a ‘proclamation compelled Juan Pablo de Bonet to create and publish the first book on sign language in 1620’ (Butterworth & Flodin, 1995)

CCLX= 260 years later…….

MDCCCLXXX= 1880: All in the mirrors Deaf community wake up in the morning on second Saturday of September to experience the mother of language hegemony: bigotry destroyed their sign languages for political gain. Soon, I will present another linocut art (Deaf theme) that will present in a math sequence. Hopefully I will make it more interesting! I love art therapy! Even a year later today would tell a lot.

Open Your Eyes: The Gleam of Light in ASL/Deaf Studies

8648_fit512.jpg

ASL/Deaf Studies at Gallaudet University is the most controversial program anywhere, maybe in the world— inside Sorenson Language Communications Center (SLCC) is incredible—filled with political assistance along with favoritism and hate-mongers. ASL/Deaf Studies has been dominated by a hearing person—known as the most vicious writer in the program that will easily write you off like you do not exist at all and made Deaf students their anguish all too private, too invisible: Let ASL/Deaf Studies use this influence to shape private awareness, diverting the impact of their ignominy to a higher purpose. This is how ASL/Deaf Studies is today—by forcing the realization that the oppression has been hidden for its own good. They made sure that it is invisible eye.

Recently, there have been two instructors and an assistant professor; all of them are Deaf that has left the program this summer. One is well known, his wife is an administrator—and is very good friends with the Provost. The well-known assistant professor has been asked to leave the program, bypassing the channels through his wife as Dean for Deaf Studies—and had been recommended a full report by the hearing chair of ASL/Deaf Studies to have the assistant professor be wiped off the radar. It shows that it is all about generational oppression by hearing people still continues.

Deaf people—in the eyes of hearing people like the Chair of the program would be executed on the first hand. The chair has the power. Why? Hearing privileges. The ignorance, hate, and lynch mob mentality sickens me. Now that is rich, you have no concept of what Deaf people have been through—everything they say can be easily backed up—but they’re ignored. Would you rather live in your own little world where facts are not relevant? Don’t you care about Deaf people enough to want to know the truth?

Walking inside ASL/Deaf Studies is a complete and utter political perpetrated on the citizens of Deaf people by hearing privileges, anti-facts, hot-air windbags a.k.a. the hearing supremacy. The more you know about ASL/Deaf Studies at Gallaudet University, the more you understand the true meaning of oppression for personal gain at the expense of providing the academic discourses where Deaf people are easily oppressed today and tomorrow.

Out of suffering have emerged the strongest souls; the most massive characters are seared with scars.–Khalil Gibran

Deaf people at the hands of the hearing privileges will always bear a vertical scar on their wrist, mottled. Deaf people has been going through a lot making a bit of difference in someone else’s life, then just maybe they could make some kind of difference in your life and if you are indifferent to it all, then do not waste your time because you are already oppressed. No close calls, but Deaf people are stronger than hearing people—always will be! They stay awake until that has passed and will always go on. It is all about political struggles Deaf people suffer today and tomorrow.

DEAF CULTURE: DC Metro Allows Cultural Oppression

Barry Sewell aka The Holism Promotes Hate

imagesI learn that the term of DEAFLESS can be defeated but the only way that it can be stopped that we are the only ones who can stop DEAFLESS under the umbrella of Audism. Also, I recognize that Barry Sewell aka The Holism is a fast disease spreading around the country and is not being taught enough awareness around the world today. Look at the VLOG below:

Fear in Deaf America: Understanding Impact of Change

Image

The other day, I watched a very good movie called The Butler directed by Lee Daniels and gave me a lot of idea what it feels to be oppressed in hearing world. The movie shows a lot of same path what Deaf people has gone through. This is a blog about Audism for Deaf people. It is not another blog about how bad Audism is, filled with facts and figures about ‘social injustice’—in this blog I want to write personally about what it means to those of in who are Deaf and how we can make a difference in this struggle for social justice.

There is a fire raging around the world. Whether it is intellectual debates or everyday misunderstandings in our communication, Audism is burning us all. Some of us have third degree burns; many others live in the charred wreckage. We all live with fear in the flow of fire’s menacing and distorted light. As Deaf people we do many things to survive the heat.

On the whole, The Butler was thoughtfully chosen and presented a well rounded sampling of Deaf literature we face everyday from the early, middle and late 21st century, but I found that the subject matter was extremely challenging. It took some time to understand what I saw from that movie, mainly because the language was unfamiliar. As a Deaf person myself, I can only imagine the effect and lament that I am unable to appreciate it.

While I understand the significance of Paddy Ladd’s book: Understanding Deaf Culture: In Search of Deafhood, it took a lot of heroic efforts to write which I know now as a literary convention at the same time. I can remember the first time when I read that book, I did not feel as enthusiastic about it, but I kept reading and reading and I found myself surprised by the indictments of religion and the tension between morality and human nature how Deaf people suffered.  Understanding the historical and cultural contexts in which both the movie and the book were made and written more powerful and relevant for me.

I realized that when I read the book, I was a beginner in the study of Deafhood and had much to learn, not only about the texts and the time periods from which the texts are borne, but also about the process of writing analytically and thoughtfully. Now, I appreciate the word of Deafhood more and more. If it was not for Deafhood, I would most likely suffer an inordinate amount of betrayal that would leave me deeply wounded and unhealed, I would probably unable to reach my full potential. Even today I still identity my own types of betrayal specific to my own Deaf experience—from society, my family, and my own self-betrayal. I need to understand how my betrayal influences my behavior and my perception I hold.

As for The Butler and Paddy Ladd’s masterpiece book, I think that we the Deaf can transform our betrayals into a source of wisdom. Through wisdom, we can be great winners. Arthur Ashe once said “Racism ultimately created the state in which defensiveness and hypocrisy are our almost instinctive responses, and innocence and generosity are invitations to trouble”….Imagine this if it was ‘Audism’ instead. I would like to loosely paraphrase this quote, “Audism ultimately created the state in which defensiveness and hypocrisy are our almost instinctive responses, and innocence and generosity are invitations to trouble” What would you say in this response?

As Speechless As You Are

Image

After collecting and reading archived letters from Gallaudet University about EPHPHATHA in my previous blog with 12 different posts, (I could not upload all the images at once, so I had to split different posts and I apologize about that) it is still blurry and very limited information. We the Deaf need to report Audism, language aversion, our language, and our culture. Removing EPHPHATHA will design to empower the Deaf community to prevent these religious “bad omen” or “witch hunt” to heal and minimize the false beliefs and negative feelings that people have about the Deaf. What does Deaf people feel like when they drive by, walk by nor walk around Gallaudet and see EPHPHATHA playing behind the fence? Deaf people on display?

EPHPHATHA is driving Deaf people out of their state of being Deaf and only sees the world of action to make sure that Deaf people do not think and desire their own culture because EPHPHATHA is an everyday influence on Gallaudet’s seal which has a huge power-playing and that is why Deaf people do not talk much about it. Talking about EPHPHATHA is an opportunity for us to learn about ourselves as Deaf people and I think it is very important to know that we need to reclaim our lives back in good conscience. Not only that the term also fragmentize the Deaf community into quattuordecillion pieces.

Deaf people must fight against the religious belief to heal us in order to preserve our language and our culture for future generations. Gallaudet needs to know that every Deaf citizen’s rights to be rooted in the free pursuit of happiness. “Be Thou Opened” has nothing to do with the opening of mind, knowledge, education, learning, whatever, but we must look at the very ORIGIN of the term: healing ears and speech. That is very much hidden message. Every English word always has the ORIGIN meaning of it. We must remember to recognize the origin meaning first. The term itself taught the university how NOT to tolerate diversity.

From one of my favorite books, Cultural Studies in the Future Tense by Lawrence Grossberg wrote Cultural Studies describes how people’s everyday lives are articulated by and with culture. It investigates how people are empowered and disempowered by the particular structures and forces that organize their everyday lives in contradictory ways and their (everyday) lives are themselves articulated to and by the trajectories of economic, social, cultural, and political power..This is, seeks to understand not only the organization of power, but also the possibilities of survival, struggle, resistance, and change. It takes contestation for granted, not as a reality in every instance, but as an assumption necessary for the existence of critical work, political opposition, and even historical change.”

It is time to make a substantive democracy and work for real change. EPHPHATHA is divided. We, the Deaf people, are united. It is pretty much evident that Audists are holding large claims on Gallaudet’s property, including a fair amount of government debt. President Hurwitz is not the president we need. He is not doing his job. We have to let him ago. We need to get back in shape. It is pretty easy choice when you compare two circus clowns, I. King Jordan and Alan Hurwitz that lie at the drop of their teeth every time they speak, worship only the greed of EPHPHATHA and never tell us what their plans who allows the obstruction of Audism on the Gallaudet seal. Both are members of Alexander Graham Bell Association. No character and heart for the Deaf community at all.

It is time to propose to the Gallaudet administration that it is enough to play mind games with Deaf people’s emotions. We need to get ourselves involved in this hidden term and remove it. Our activism needs to make a loud statement and let them know that our conviction that EPHPHATHA is wrong. Why does Gallaudet fail Deaf people from not succeeding their hearing abilities? Deaf people should not been criticized and their biggest liabilities are to be succeed and get a fair education from Gallaudet without the term wringing their necks around. EPHPHATHA does not contribute to the cultural diversity of this Deaf community and makes us invisible in this world. Removing the term off the seal will bring Deaf people a place of belonging, but if the term is still there, then Deaf people will deny their sense of belonging. Simple.

EPHPHATHA is a Bias

The origin of the term, EPHPHATHA has nothing to do with the opening of the mind. Now think about Muslims, Islam, Buddha, Hindu, Atheists, etc…do you think they will accept the view or are we start language war? We need to be careful not to impose Christian values. We need to think in diversity and the term, EPHPHATHA does not show to represent diversity which can be dangerous in the long term.
