Train Our Minds to See Good in Deaf Returnees

When a Deaf returnee (returning citizen/returned citizen) denied, he/she are separated from Deaf community. First, Deaf returnees seek rehabilitation is not illegal and the law says they shall be treated respectfully. According to the United States Constitution, Eighth Amendment.

Second, as it is, Deaf returnees are guilty and incarcerated without due process. So much for compassion and following the rule of law. Most of Deaf returnees are receiving harsh treatment than they had their entire lives. Dealing through harassment is a depressing task. So much cruelty, so much lack of empathy or understanding or even basic human caring.

Those Deaf returnees are humans. Do any of you that support this know any Deaf returnees personally? This is not how Deaf community treats the awareness among us. Remember, humanity has been at this crossroads before.

Culture of fear is what will fail. Deaf community should be accurate and fair. On the other hand, rejecting Deaf returnees from Deaf community seek to minimize the profound damage that culture of fear is doing to us. This practice is a witch-hunt. It has to be critically examined and discussed.

If you want to go that route, then it is just what it is, but states, counties, cities needs rehabilitation, not retribution. Do we understand that oppression used to justify the ownership of Deaf community?

Deaf returnees are being taken away from Deaf community are traumatized enough and it does infect harm. It is a fact. The pain, anguish, fear, raging through rumor-mill who lives in culture of fear. It is shameful, and it has no place in the heart of Deaf community. Who in their right mind takes a Deaf returnee on a difficult journey while knowingly being punished daily? Why do Deaf community continue on this path of cruelty? What price will Deaf returnees pay its final reckoning due? One Deaf person sent me this quote few weeks ago to remember by:

“Train your mind to see the good in every situation”- Buddha

It would be nice to train our minds to see the good in every situation what Deaf returnees can contribute back to Deaf community.

Fire Chief Paul Smith: A Disgrace to the United States of America

The other day, Paul Smith wrote a list of “list of no-good n……..” Yes, he admitted that he said that. “Yes, I said that” on his own post. That time, he was the Chief of the Cecil Township Fire Department, about 20 miles outside of Pittsburgh. He does not serve the community and United States of America. He is a disgrace to the public. He’s a Trump supporter, too. Go figure! Racism is a social disease—and he needs help. It is no excuse at all. He is no longer fire chief with the Fire department. Good for people to stand up! I support with all the NFL players who kneel all the way! Injustice, Racism, and police brutality—do not belong in America. Also, we do not need firefighters or EMT who are racists, haters, or liars. I happen to know one.

Deaf Returning Citizens Deserve Happy Holidays!

Dear Readers,

As we gather with friends and loved ones to celebrate the holiday season and give thanks for the many blessings we enjoy and the freedoms we cherish, let us take a moment to remember those people, for example, Deaf returning citizens who are less fortunate. They usually are left out alone. Employment and higher education across America, is the biggest struggle for Deaf returning citizens who continue to set an example of rebuild their lives in the community for its service and pursuit of happiness.

We all have a part to play to make our world a better example in Deaf community. During this holiday season, we all need to reach out to those who need help the help the most and commit to our fellow Deaf returning citizens and resolve to build a better future free from severe oppression, hunger, and injustice. In this season of reflection, Deaf community needs to come together and make a difference.

Giving a lecture “Deaf Returning Citizens as Forgotten People” at California State University Northridge (CSUN) sponsored by Deaf Studies Association for a conference called Social Justice: BY, FOR, OF People, is a great honor, and I am grateful and humbled by the opportunity to continue to do so. I am excited to get work and make a major change in 2016.

Have a Merry Christmas and a joyful holiday season! As in Native American literature, on Christmas, bring peace on Earth.

Gallaudet University Needs Radical Students

Ashley Thorne published an article called Beating the Apple Tree: How the University Coerces Activism and wrote about an Argentinean Marxist Che Guevara quoted, “The revolution is not an apple that falls when it is ripe! You have to make it fall” At the time he was talking about Fidel Castro’s role in the Cuban revolution. Ashley Thorne wrote that it is also that his words are about today’s college campuses and target students that they are the revolutionary apples as well as having the advantage of having higher education.

This blog post attempts to examine and explain social bias toward Deaf individuals. Furthermore how this bias manifests in the form of social bias and Deaf victimization. It is about Alexander Graham Bell. Gallaudet University sent students an e-mail to let them know that the National Geographic Society in Washington, D.C., gives the students a deal of getting twenty dollars off the purchasing tickets to watch an event called “Bell” about his life sponsored by the National Geographic Society.

From its website, it says ‘one-man play revealing remarkable genius of Alexander Graham Bell’ wrote a short paragraph there that says: “Meet the 19th century man whose inventions shaped the 21st. Alexander Graham Bell is best known as the inventor of the telephone, but there was such more to his charismatic mastermind.”

Let’s see if Bell was a charismatic mastermind by quoting in 1908 where he published a tract in the National Geographic Society (NGS), he shouted loud enough to let the society know that deaf-deaf relations “the marriage of inferiors”.

Five years later, Thomas Gallaudet’s grandson, Dr. J Wallace Beveridge teamed up with Bell to do an article calling for legislation to prohibit reproduction by Deaf people in New York Times newspaper. Gallaudet-Bell relationship remains strong as ever today. It is a bad discount after all. They allowed to have Gallaudet practice Audism, a term coined by Tom Humphries in 1975, explaining that it is a social bias against Deaf individuals in a hearing dominant society has as a “notion that one is superior based on one’s ability to hear or behave in the manner of one who hears.”

There is a considerable lack of research available on the topic of Audism at Gallaudet. Why not Gallaudet recognizes that Audism is a serious issue that deserves examination?

Is Gallaudet afraid to change for the inevitability of truth? It is a trick to fool its students by going there and appreciates Bell’s achievements. I wonder if there is a living will written by Bell that instructs Gallaudet to struck with status quo and to shut up about his secret by stealing Deaf people’s identities away.

Bell’s father-in-law founded the National Geographic Society, and eventually Bell became president of NGS, he knew how to become a socialization agent who controlled Deaf people even in his own death. A socialization agent is about selling propaganda, conspiracy theories and value sets. Today, Gallaudet University supports Bell’s propaganda and his conspiracy theories about Deaf people.

Let’s go back to activism. Students at Gallaudet University need to create a radical social justice group to organize various awareness campaigns, as well as to provide a community for students’ interest in organizing radical social justice activities to stop and minimize Audism, especially at the university.

The word “radical” comes from the word, ‘raddix’ which means ‘from the root’. “Radical” means going to the root and radical social justice attempts to challenge oppression and injustice at the root. That means, instead of organizing around talking points specific to a particular political party, radical social justice attempts to challenge the very institutions that includes Gallaudet University that maintains inequity in our society. Gallaudet University needs to apologize for their actions for selling the tickets to designate and leave many Deaf students to be lacking in their personal identity. The students at Gallaudet need to learn how to be radicalized and to be a revolutionary apple.
